About this listen

Every battle leaves its mark...

Ex-Special Forces soldier Alex Abbott escaped the Middle East under a cloud and now lives hand-to-mouth in Singapore. Scraping a living as a gun for hire and estranged from his family, Abbott is haunted by ghosts of the past, drinking to dull the pain. Life's tough, but there is one upside - at least he's not in Baghdad.

That's about to change.

When a job goes badly wrong, Abbott's in hot water. Next he learns that his military son, Nathan, is missing in Iraq. Knowing something is wrong, needing to find his son and desperate for redemption, Abbott has no choice but to go back.

Returning to Baghdad, Abbott renews old acquaintances and begins his search for Nathan. The body count rises as old wounds open and he struggles to confront his demons, self-medicating the only way he knows how. But when one of his old crew turns up dead in mysterious circumstances and the link with Nathan is clear, Abbott begins to suspect a trap.

But who is the hunter? And who is the hunted?

Wow

Surprisingly good book. Well written, solid characters, and nicely executed (because I've written 0 books and know what I'm talking about haha) . Regardless, I was on the edge of my seat listening to this, and thoroughly entertained.

Special Forces - Travels with Ollie / Alex

Ollie draws on his experience and delivers an authentic story which would be the foundation for a Hollywood franchise.

No literary epic this book sounds true to the heart of Ollie’s journey, delivered in honest rather than flowery or convoluted language.

Some good twists from an affably fallible hero - stumbling through his tumble-down life - perused by demons of his own and others’ making

I’m looking forward to where the story goes next - what more can Ollie pull from the bag to beat his lead character about the head with?

Amazing

I’ve really enjoyed every second of this audiobook. It was captivating and none stop exiting. 10/10 definitely recommend listening to this, and all of his others!

Really good - In the mould of Danny Black

Clearly written by a guy who’s been there and done this - excellent first outing - those that like Chris Ryan’s Danny Black novels will love this

Quite good but I probably won’t get the next one in the series.

I have no real criticism of the book but it didn’t grip me or leave me wanting more.
The description of Baghdad makes me even more convinced that the UK and USA left the place in a mess. Tony Blair and George W Bush are responsible for thousands upon thousands of deaths and ruined lives; they should both be put on trial for war crimes, not to mention the lies they told.

Surprisingly good

I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this as had read the authors first book and he came across as a detestable human being. Assuming he wrote I was impressed and would listen to a follow up.

Nicely written and well read

Really enjoyed this book! The technical details mixed with the real life emotion leaves no doubt that the writer has seen a lot of these things first hand. The narrator brings this to life extremely well!
