About this listen

"Look after the dead," said the priests, "and the dead will look after you."

Wise words in all probability, but a tall order when you have just become the pharaoh of a small and penniless country whose largesse, and indeed treasury, is unlikely to stretch to the building of a monumental pyramid to honour your dead father. And particularly when your only visible means of support is a recently acquired qualification from the Guild of Assassins - and running a kingdom and basic financial acumen were not prerequisites for course entry.

best discworld ever!

This has always been my favourite discworld book. And what a great performance from Tony Robinson!

A delight from start to finish

Tony Robinson's reading/acting are brilliant. Paired with Pratchett's story, unsurpassable. Just wish it was unabridged.

love every minute

Brilliantly executed, characters were brought to live and it was a joy to listen to this book.

Loved the performance of this abridged version

Loved it. Love the way Tony brings characters to life. Only quibble and I don’t know if this is my audible app but the volume difference between some characters makes it either hard to hear if you set it for the loud ones or blowing your ear drums if you’ve set it for the quieter ones

voices of characters

although all the voices were accurate due to the nature of the characters many were old and muffled so at times were hard to understand but overall it was an excellent reading and would recommend. I am a huge fan of Terry Pratchett's and for anyone reading his books for the first time (disc word novels) I would recommend this as a first read as it showcases his weird and wonderful style well and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Poor reading skills

Tony sounds like he's going to fall asleep any minute.
The book itself is perfect as expected of Terry Prachett

Are bits missing

I love hearing Tony Robinson read these books, but this one I seemed to lose track of what was happening. I felt like bits were missing from the book. I review the other version read by someone else (so forgot name) and this book was over 8hours long. Yet this was between 3 and 4. Can not fault Tony’s performance, wonderful!!

Under 3 hours?

The Nigel Planer version is 9 hrs, this one is under 3 hrs? It felt very short, is this abridged? Also, Tony Robinson frequently reverted to speaking very quietly and very slowly, not the best narration.
