About this listen

The Sunday Times Bestseller

Powerful, highly-charged and moving, No Way Out is Adam Jowett’s tribute to the men of Easy Company who paid a heavy price for serving their country.

In Helmand province in July 2006, Major Adam Jowett was given command of Easy Company, a hastily assembled and under-strength unit of Paras and Royal Irish rangers. Their mission was to hold the District Centre of Musa Qala at any cost. Easy Company found themselves in a ramshackle compound, cut off and heavily outnumbered by the Taliban in the town.

In No Way Out, Adam evokes the heat and chaos of battle as the Taliban hit Easy Company with wave after wave of brutal attack. He describes what it was like to have responsibility for the lives of his men as they fought back heroically over twenty-one days and nights of relentless, nerve-shredding combat. Finally, as they came down to their last rounds and death stared Easy Company in the face, the siege took an extraordinary turn . . .

Moving

As a Afghan Vet, I found this books details on just living in Afghanistan really amazing.

I was instantly transported back to my time in Helmand and this at times made the book hard to get though but this was nothing to do with its content or Deliver which were 1st class.

This book has somthing for everyone whether you've served on Afghan or not and gives you the idea of the political fight soliders face aswell as the physical.

100% recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyable and moving read

Certainly one of the most enjoyable reads in a very long time. Adam Jowett’s account is clear, unflustered and dramatic. The remarkable men of Easy Company are truly some of the unsung heroes of the Afghan campaign deserving recognition for their professionalism whilst suffering an unabated and relentless assault by the Taliban. What a travesty the men of Easy Company were not recognised for their incredible contribution from the powers to be - shame on you. A big heads up to Adam Jowett for putting pen to paper to tell this incredible story. For my part, I’ll recommend this book to whoever I can.

Humbling and astounding

What Easy company achieved in the highest traditions of the British Army is nothing short of phenomenal.

Heroism and steadfastness under the most testing of circumstances.

Heroes to a man and the sacrifice made will not be forgotten because of this detailed and informative piece of work from the man who lead with honour and and intelligence.

The powers that be who at the time made such horrendous decisions, should be forced to read this book and forever be ashamed.

To the men of Easy company and the families of those who were lost, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

A soldiers view of battle, raw and unedited.

As a civilian it is difficult to understand war and battle from a soldiers eye. To obey commands without question and to put your life on the line for that cause. This book gives you a raw glimpse in to that mind set. Thank you Adam for sharing and to the men of Easy Company for everything that makes me proud to be British.

Gritty

A truly gripping, honest & personal account that I really struggled to put down. The narrator's tone is bang on which lends itself to the honest account given, not influenced by exaggerated emotion or superlatives. A highly recommended read.

Great Book

This for me was one of the best book for describing a period of time in conflict. This is what press never reported and it’s a very honest account.

A must listen

Amazing true account of front line soldiering in Afghan

This book Resonated with me in so many ways excellent explanation of exactly how it was for those on the ground he should be very proud of what he has achieved. Just a shame the British high command didn’t support him throughout his career like so many around him these men should not be used as a political tools.
