Summary

Two cyclists die on the Somerset Levels, and the Exham bakery gets the blame. Libby Forest runs into danger as she sets out to solve the mystery, save the bakery and rescue her career, helped by Bear, the enormous Carpathian Sheepdog, Fuzzy, an aloof marmalade cat, and the handsome, secretive Max Ramshore.

Set in the coastal resort of Exham on Sea, Murder on the Levels features a cast of local characters, including Mandy the teenage Goth, her new boyfriend, Steve, Frank the baker, and Detective Sergeant Joe Ramshore, Max's estranged son. The green fields, rolling hills and sandy beaches of the West Country provide the perfect setting for crime, intrigue, and mystery.

Not good

Unfortunately I’m finding this book a very difficult listen. The narrator has a monotone voice and doesn’t differentiate between characters sufficiently to allow me to understand who is saying what. For a short book, I’m spending more hours on this due to rewinding back than it would take to listen to a book twice this length.

Delightful

My 2nd listen which I really enjoyed. Good storyline, good characters and great little twist at the end. Just a little wish that there could be a bit more differentiation between the characters voices but I would still recommend this listen nonetheless. About to download book 3……can’t wait.

Decent story, dull narration

The narrator really ruins the story for me, there is just no emotion and very little differentiation between voices. The story itself is okay, decent twist at the end but overall prefer the author’s later books, particularly the Ham Hill series.

Difficult to follow story

The narrator has such a monotone voice and this takes the joy out listening to the story.

Narrator spoils the story

I throughly enjoyed the storyline but just can't listen to the narrator, it spoils the entire book. Bitterly disappointed, which is such a shame considering I enjoyed the story and characters , it's just the annoying monotoned voice, why oh why did the author choose this narrator, such a shame and I just can't listen to any more of these books.

enjoyment

I enjoy murder mysteries and this kept me guessing to the end. The reader has a voice which is easy on the ears.

Not too shabby

Enjoyed this book. Not quite as much as the later ones but pretty good. Prob not helped as I’m listening out of sequence. I listen in way to work in the car. Barely notice the one hour journey these days. Thanks audible.

Another cosy read

I enjoy these and am working my way through the series. I have not listened to them in order. And am now trying to read those I have yet to listen to in order to bring more continuity to the characters. A heat easy to listen to cosy mystery set in rural Somerset
