Summary

THE MANOR HOUSE MURDER MYSTERY AS YOU'VE NEVER SEEN IT

'What's better than a good crime novel? I'll tell you - a spoof crime novel, by the absurdly funny and clever Fergus Craig'
MIRANDA HART

'We all need more laughs like this'
AISLING BEA

Detective Roger LeCarre. Scourge of crime. Guardian of Exeter. Amateur squash player. And now, party guest at Powderham, the manor house owned by mysterious billionaire tech genius Eli Quartz.

It is a small and unconventional gathering: the Bishop, a fading radio star, a desperate aristocrat, the aging butler and his absurdly beautiful daughter - and Detective Roger LeCarre. Then a snowstorm blows in and the group realise they are trapped.

And when, completely against expectations for this kind of situation, someone winds up dead, it's obvious who must solve the crime. Obvious, but for the fact the murder weapon was in Detective Roger LeCarre's hand, and the body was at his feet...

Murder at Crime Manor was shortlisted for the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize for Comic Fiction on 4 October, 2023.

Beautiful, Handsome, Pulchritudinous!

Once Upon a Crime proved there was enough meat on Detective Roger LeCarre's bones for a novel. Murder at Crime Manor proves there's enough for a series. Long may he reign!

Crime is back, but so is LeCarre

Devon & Cornwall's finest Detective is back doing what he does best! Solving crimes. This was another ridiculously great story. Read brilliantly by the author. It is pure silliness, but it made my commute from Dorset to Somerset for work far more enjoyable for a week.

Highly recommend.

Great fun

The audiobook is essential IMO, the performance adds so much. I found it as enjoyable as the first one.

Quirkey

Funny, quirky and just the tonic. Great holiday read - only you may get a few looks your way as you guffaw with laughter.

Fergus Craig does it again.

Really good performance, absolutely hilarious. Craig has done a really good job in first turning his ‘Dad writes a crime novel’ Twitter videos in to the first DI Roger Le Carre book. No difficult second album problems for Craig here.
Aside from the spoof elements it’s also well plotted and an enjoyable story - Craig is a good author and it shows. The meta references to plot holes are absolutely gold.
Really hope this series continues - particularly on the strength of this one!

Liked but..

Liked the style etc - a bit Flashman-esque. But I found it waned after a while.
