Summary

When I—along with my best friend and his big purple monster boyfriend—come across a fortress-like raider camp while journeying across the monster-infested Wastes, we stop to deliver a message.

Somehow, that simple pit stop turns into a seemingly impossible quest to get this camp's missing leader out of the prison where he's being held and forced to fight monsters and other humans. I know exactly where it is because I've been there.

Problem is, I'm making this journey with the prickliest and most arrogant guy I've ever met, who seems to hate me on sight. Oh, and he's also half-monster. So there's that. And he's in love with a raider who definitely does not love him back, and he seems determined to take it out on me. So there's also that.

I'm not going to rise to his childish insults and barbed words. I'm not. I'm also going to try very hard to ignore how mind-numbingly beautiful he is, even when he's scowling at me.

The longer we're out here together, the more I learn about my prickly half-monster companion Moth. I realize there's a reason he's so closed off and angry. There's a reason he hates everyone.

There are secrets he's been keeping, and when I find out what they are, I want to do everything in my power to help him—even though he's telling me he can't be helped.

Moth is book five of the Monstrous series, a post-apocalyptic m/m fantasy series that features monsters and human men falling in love. It is best to listen to the series in order.

Love these two, even more now on audio

Fantastic performance by Michael Lesley. I already adored Moth and Charlie, one of the favorite couples and Michael has done such an incredible job with this piece.

Ok… so I cried.

I have read Moth more times than I can count. It is one of my favourite books. Moth and Charlie are just the sweetest (yet grumpy/snarky) couple and their story is so damn good. So I went into this knowing the plot inside out, and yet I found myself crying over the emotional parts - the narrator did a fab job and listening really bought something new to the book for me. This is going to be a go to comfort listen for me.

She's done it again...

Book 5 in the Monstrous series follows Charlie (human) & Moth (half human half Monster) we have met both of these characters in previous books, Charlie is the friend Hunter & Edin rescue in Book 2 and Moth has had little cameos throughout the series that showcased his standoffish and snarky personality and piqued my curiosity about his character.

Moth volunteers to go to the human/Monster fighting prison to try and rescue Cat so that Ghost won't feel obligated to be the one who does it and Charlie decides to tag along and that is how we find ourselves along for the ride of these two wandering the wastes, avoiding the military & fighting and saving each other from other monsters. Charlie knows there is more to Moth than meets the eye, especially after Moth seemingly vanishes out of nowhere to only suddenly reappear just as abruptly but injured. Where did he go? Why? And who hurt him?

This book tugs on your heartstrings, Moth is so insecure about both his monster & human sides as he has been abandoned and rejected throughout his life and faces judgement and scorn from both sides and because of this he fears Charlie will be repulsed by his monster body & reject him too. What Moth has been through and how that has shaped him into who he is is heartbreaking and he needed someone with patience, tenacity, gentle & understanding and Charlie is all of those things. The way these two come together is a delicious slow burn on the emotional connection front but they absolutely combust with their chemistry & physical connection, Charlie has it bad for Moth and adores him, his body, tail, scales and all! This was another fantastic edition to this series and I can't believe each one has been a 5 star read for me so far, the world building, characters, overall storyarc & spice is always on point and I am thoroughly enjoying this series. 🌶🌶🌶🌶

Loved it

Well, I guess I'm back loving this series!
After being a bit disappointed with the previous books, I was eagerly expecting this book to rekindle the love I had for the first book. And it did!
With an increased speed turning this almost 16hrs long audiobook into around 7hrs, I read it in one setting and I didn't see time going by due to my enjoyment.
A part of me feels like not much happened in the book but I didn't really care because I love the characters and their moments together. I was also nicely surprised to have more than one chapter from Moth's pov (but he's half-human so I guess it made sense).

Loved it even more on audio!

This continues to be one of my all time favorite series and getting to listen to each book on audio now is really solidifying it! I really forgot how much of a journey Charlie & Moth’s quest to find Cat truly wise. Their relationship development is just so swoony and cute. The way Charlie just wants to love and support Moth in all the ways no one else ever has is just perfect for their dynamic!
