Summary

Finalist for the 2023 AUDIE AWARDS® for Fiction

Jodi Picoult is the author of 17 number 1 UK bestsellers. Now with Mad Honey she has joined up with co-author Jennifer Finney Boylan to give us the most compelling, challenging and contemporary novel you will read this year - and which will start conversations we need to have.

Olivia fled her abusive marriage to return to her hometown and take over the family beekeeping business when her son was six. Now Asher is over 6 feet tall and in his last year of high school, a kind, good-looking, popular ice hockey star with a tiny sprite of a new girlfriend who Olivia loves. Then Lily is found with a catastrophic head injury at the bottom of the stairs - and Asher is arrested on a charge of murder. . . What was the truth of their relationship?

Beautifully written, enlightening story

Such an engaging story wrapped up in a very real world issue. Can’t recommend it enough. I loved it as much as Crawdads, so if that was on your ‘loved it’ radar, don’t hesitate!

Emotional story

A very sad story raising important issues of intolerance. I enjoyed this story and the issues it addresses . The story will live with me for a long time.

Love love love

Powerful and haunting and honest and raw. I loved it. A much needed book for our generation.

Wow 👌

I was looking forward to this thinking I'd learn something about bees and honey. But, wow what I learned about an entirely unexpected topic (didnt read anything about the book before starting it) I feel like my eyes are open a little wider now and I hope this story has ripples beyond its pages.

Amazing

Jodie Picoult does it again, amazing story told from 2 different perspectives, both powerful and full of truth. The authors notes at the end 👌

A perfect jigsaw puzzle

Brilliantly written and read, another piece of great literature by Jodi Picoult, possibly my next favourite after small great things.

Captivating story - raises important questions

I found that this story was beautifully told. The narrators were convincing and their interplay encouraged me to continue to the end. Some aspects of the story were left under-explored, but overall it was a very insightful listen. I would strongly recommend this to anyone, particularly those who want to understand more about bee-keeping and transgender issues in western society.

My book of the year

This is the best listen for a long time. Despite knowing several trans women and one trans man, who have shared some of their experiences, I gained a deeper understanding from this story about the journeys travelled getting them to where they are now. Thank you Jodi and Jenny for this thought provoking novel.
