It takes a little time to get used to the narrative being from differing people, but it is worth it. An interesting courtroom and family story, with some very real well drawn characters.

The story and the guy who is the narrator

This is a wonderfully crafted novel from an author at the top of his game. The 20 years which have passed since the original Presumed Innocent can be felt on every page, not just in terms of the weight of time felt my the main protagonists, but also in the quality, depth and subtelty of Turow's writing. The narration is also pitch perfect, making this one of the best books I've downloaded from Audible in all the years I've been a subscriber.

Scott Turow is a master of "why" rather than "who" dunnit? This story is full of questions and answers, some believable, some not. The main character of Rusty is as enigmatic as previously and you're often wondering whether he's an outright villain or just a complex man.

The main narrator is first class, especially his voice for the Chinese-American trial judge. The female narrator is also excellent, although has a much smaller role. Really hard to stop listening to this story, so clear your diary and enjoy!

There's none of the whodunnit mystery about this story as there was in the first, and none of the characters are particularly likeable. But I kept listening for a big reveal which didn't come.

I have read all of his books and I love them all this was a fabulous sequel to the Rusty story of 20 years ago that was brilliant

I had just read the page-turning prequel (Presumed Innocent) to this book, which I would recommend doing as you will enjoy Innocent even more. The latter takes up the life lawyer Rusty Sabich twenty years later. Most of the book is taken up by a blow by blow account of a trial for murder and though this is done in minute detail I was kept rapt by the roller-coaster of twists and turns as the weight of evidence flips repeatedly from the prosecution to the defence. It's not just a gripping legal case full of suspense but also a study of relationships with well-defined characters who relate events from different perspectives.
If you like forensic legal thrillers you'll enjoy this book.

I decided to purchase Innocent due to watching "Presumed Innocent" on TV many years ago and wondered if the audio book would deliver. Struggling at first I watched the film again (and enjoyed it) then things fell into place and I was hooked.
I enjoyed Scott Turow telling the story from various viewpoints and the court room parts were excellent.
Thoroughly enjoyed the story and I mustst mention Narrator Edward Herrmann who was excellent.
