About this listen

First published by St. Martin's in 1958, Robert Traver's Anatomy of a Murder immediately became the number one best seller in America, and was subsequently turned into the successful and now classic Otto Preminger film. It is is not only the most popular courtroom drama in American fiction, but one of the most popular novels of our time.

A gripping tale of deceit, murder, and a sensational trial, Anatomy of a Murder is unmatched in the authenticity of its settings, events, and characters.

A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin's Griffin

"The characters are as fresh as when they were first created, the tension high, and the cross- examinations and legal chicanery full of suspense. The novel is simply what it says on the cover. A classic." (Tangled Web)

Critic reviews

"For the lay reader, the entertainment lies in the action...but for the lawyer, undoubtedly the greatest pleasure stems from the author's obvious competence in, and love for, the law." (University of Miami Law Review)

About a week too long …

Undoubtedly a great story - and as someone with full vision - is to be read and enjoyed in a book.

Far too long, and sadly dated, I cheerfully slept or snoozed through much of it, without missing anything.

Brilliant

I watched the film many years ago and loved it so when I saw this I couldn’t resist. It didn’t disappoint..the characters are lovable and the story itself is simply brilliant. I just know I’ll listen to this again and again. The narration is very good and atmospheric. Old fashioned story telling at its best !

An old favourite revisited

I really enjoyed this audiobook. I have read the book several times (a while ago now) and , of course, seen the Film version with James Stewart as the main character. What tells here is that tthe text is a first person narritive and this is brought to life in audio format. Especially as the defence Lawyer, Paul Biegler, expresses his thoughts while talking to witnesses or questioning them in Court.

Too much sexism and misogyny

Tried really hard to like this but by chapter 5 there were too many sexist and misogynistic comments to go on.
