About this listen

I Survived is Victoria Cilliers' chilling, eye-opening story of marriage and attempted murder, revealing the truth about a case that made headlines around the world. Now the subject of a major Channel 4 documentary The Fall: Skydive Murder Plot.

On Easter Sunday 2015, experienced skydiver Victoria Cilliers undertook a parachute jump, a gift from her husband, British army sergeant Emile Cilliers. Her parachutes failed to open and she plummeted 4,000 feet to the ground, sustaining life-threatening injuries. Miraculously, she survived. Then the police arrived at her door. Someone had tampered with her parachute and they suspected Emile.

In I Survived Victoria describes how she fell for Emile, and how the charming man she thought she knew gradually revealed a darker side, chipping away at her self-worth until she found it impossible to sift truth from lies. Can she really believe that her husband – the father of their two young children – tried to kill her? As more shocking revelations come to light, and she has to face his trial and relentless media scrutiny, she struggles to come to terms with the past. Even a guilty verdict does not free her because Emile is not ready to let her go . . .

Powerful and honest, this is the story of a woman who was put through hell and yet found the strength to forge a new life for herself and her children.

This story is shocking, not because of what he did but because of the reactions of the public towards Victoria at what she endured at the hands of an extremely selfish man. Domestic abuse is terrifying and dangerous and people should never tell someone else what they should and shouldn’t have done. Great to hear her and her family are getting in well now.

Shocking but all too familiar

As a person who has also experienced a narcissist type relationship I completely empathise with Victoria’s story. She experienced such devious and manipulative behaviour that made her question herself and her intuition. That is THE worst aspect of this abuse. The perpetrators power to make someone doubt themselves. The only reason he was able to do this is because Victoria is a kind beautiful soul and he saw that and targeted her. Victoria is an extremely strong woman. She was let down buy many people and the system and society. She didn’t let herself down. I am proud of her for writing this book and telling her side of events and how painful it was and how she struggled through. She is a role model for women all over the world how she soldiered on through the horrendous experiences she had and has come out the other side. I admire you Victoria.

Well written and read. Fascinating story about despicable cruelty. I did struggle with the authors reasoning and found myself getting annoyed on multiple occasions. had multiple occasions to get out of a dreadful situation. However the amount of insecurity from the wife was on another level. I'm just glad the outcome was what it was. Could have been terrible...especially for the kids. I really hope this family goes from strength to strength...and stay away from the Demon husband.

a story about insecurity and naivety.
