Summary
Georgia Williams’ murder at the hands of college pal Jamie Reynolds was a crime that shocked the nation: chillingly executed and horrific in its sexual depravity.
But when Georgia’s devastated mother, Lynnette, and father, Steve, questioned the events leading to their daughter’s death, they discovered it was also entirely preventable.
At the time of Georgia’s disappearance, Steve was – ironically – a highly-commended murder squad detective serving with West Mercia Police.
The same force, Steve and Lynnette discovered, had had Reynolds in its sights for years before Georgia’s murder, but let him slip their net.
Drawing on Steve’s inside police knowledge, the couple exposed the litany of failures that let Reynolds infiltrate their daughter’s life, and allowed him to kill.
Now, in her powerful and moving memoir, Lynnette tries to get beyond the platitudes of ‘mistakes made and lessons learned’ to effect real change, and also details the heartbreaking aftermath of a crime that should never have happened.

Touching and tough to hear, but brilliantly written!
We hear the stories in the news, but clearly only the tip of the iceberg! A very interesting insight into what the families go through and how difficult these circumstances considering their links to the police. So sad it could have been avoided. I was brought to tears more than once. Thank you for sharing your experience.

A painful glimpse into the failures within the systems
....it is just a fact that the work ethic hard working folks live within is not the norm...doing the job to the best of one's ability involves hard work and a selfless willingness to go beyond the '40 hour- do what I have to and go home as soon as I can' method. IIf everyone worked with true defication to their roll, the burden on the few wouldn't bring them down to the painful level so blatantly shown in these departmental flaws. Having endured 3 assaults and brutally harassed by a gang of idiots all orchestrated by a sociopath BUT identified by police as 'a woman thing' and failing us, we get it....but the pain this family continues to live with only reflects the sad direction society travels through....and the still inability for police and cps to understand the toll these supposedly low level criminals are the core of the decline in all the cities and towns we live in.

Outstanding and heartbreaking
The strength it must have taken Lynette to write this… I can’t imagine. But the book is amazing and the tragic story of Georgia’s untimely death told very well.

written with absolute love for her beautiful Georgia it was heartbreaking listening to her early years and the happy normal family life they all enjoyed, until a selfish monster stole it all from them.
