About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before.

The audiobook of I Shall Wear Midnight is narrated by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones; Luther; This Way Up). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Steven Cree (Outlander; A Discovery of Witches) voices the Nac Mac Feegles. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

As the witch of the Chalk, Tiffany Aching performs the distinctly unglamorous work of caring for the needy.

But someone - or something - is inciting fear, generating dark thoughts and angry murmurs against witches.

Tiffany must find the source of unrest and defeat the evil at its root. Aided by the tiny-but-tough Wee Free Men, Tiffany faces a dire challenge, for if she falls, the whole Chalk falls with her...

I Shall Wear Midnight is the fourth book in the Tiffany Aching series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series - The Colour of Magic - was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Tiffany Aching matures into the witch we all wanted her to be.

I love TPs discworld novels - I read Colour of Magic just a few years after publication, and, as with many readers, have grown up with Pratchett. I didn't read the 'kids' books though... I was firmly an adult and pre-kids, when Wee Free Men came out. So, many years later, with an 11 and 8 year old in tow, we've been devouring them on Audible over the summer holidays - and they've just reiterated to me how wise, funny and humane TP is. The magic, the power (!) of story telling has always been such a rich seam in discworld and I love that my kids can experience such a masterful rendering of these themes in this version. One note on in this last book in the series... it takes on some pretty grim realities - right at the beginning - that set up much of the passion in the unfolding drama. It's quite a gear change when binging on Audible that may not have been such a leap for the original cohort who aged with the books. I'm not sure my 8 yr old is ready for it and my 11 yr old was a little disturbed... but the story pays off this opening tension... just be prepared if you're listening with young kids.

Indira is amazing

These are just such good adaptations. The narration and voices are spot on. I loved the Stephen Briggs ones but these just go above and beyond

I am really loving the Discworld Audiobooks

I feel the voice acting is absolutely spot on...The females sound exactly like they did in my head when I read this years ago

Another wonderful tale

Indira Varma does such an excellent job of bringing these stories to life. Her voicing of the characters makes them utterly believable - including the men, which enables the story to flow.

Coupled with the excellent writing, a great piece of escapism!

laughed and teared up

I love these books so much and it's sad to move to last one in the series as it wasn't sir Terry himself that finished and published it
he's met Death and crossed the desert in his big hat a long scarf
what a loss for all of us...

Amazing

Indira Varma was made to narrate these books. Especially the female voices like in the 10-12 witches novels. I love reading the Discworld series and had to listen to to audiobooks after an accident. Thanks Indira, you have made listening to audiobooks a pleasure.
