Summary
Facing Death Together is a true story of how a loving marriage of 16 years is suddenly turned upside down after a simple routine visit to the doctor because of constipation. No one in the family suspected the traumatic reality of facing an unexpected diagnosis.
In July 2018, an oncologist previously stated to us just two weeks earlier, we had nothing to worry about. The doctor enters the room and tells us that Joyce, my dear loving wife, has stage four cancer with 6-18 months to live. I was 65 at the time and Joyce was 72 years old at that time. This story shares the experience and very tragic life-changing experiences of dealing with doctors, insurance companies, health care providers, and family.
Joyce requested that I start writing this after the third month of chemo. She made me promise to publish this book so that others would know and understand what happens when someone is given a stage 4 cancer diagnosis and the unconscious, unpredictable consequences of choosing a quantity of life. Her choice of choosing to die at home placed a burden on her loving family. Joyce was fortunate to die before COVID-19. This story shares warnings worthy of an afternoon listening to help prepare anyone who may have someone with a terminal illness and what to expect during the coming months after receiving a terminal illness diagnosis.

Not easy to talk about
This is an amazing book well done on a topic that I struggled with given that I am a cancer survival. I can’t begin to imagine loosing a love one to cancer. Both parties are always hurting. The person diagnosed and their love ones.I thanked the author so very much for taking the courage and time to share these experiences. It is uplifting for someone who thought that they are alone.

Heartbreaking story
I enjoyed listening to the audiobook. The book tells the heartbreaking story of the author supporting his wife during her battle with stage 4 cancer. In it, we learn what caring for a sick loved one involves, including becoming an expert on the illness itself, responsibilities for the care, and medical concerns associated with each day. He did a great job of conveying the emotions he went through during this challenging time to the reader. Also, the narrator expressed those emotions well. I appreciate the author sharing his experiences with us. I highly recommend it.

Amazing story about love and bravery
One can't imagine what is like receiving the news that your loved one, someone you have spent decades with, has cancer and a few months left to live. Only someone who has gone through it knows the pain associated with it. This story may bring you to tears. It is raw and candid. I commend the author for candidly sharing his last months with Joyce. It gives you food for thought as to what someone will face and the decisions that will need to be made if ever faced with those cards.

An unforgettable story
I was at a loss for words while listening to this man's story. I have been fortunate in life and have not lost a close loved one and especially anyone to cancer. His story and the way he is so open about the trials he and his wife faced really made me think things over. I appreciate the honesty of the author in sharing his story, and for doing his part in helping others that are in this war with cancer.

Very sincere and loving
I highly recommend this book! The author has captured the painful reality of suffering and loss mixed with love, find memories and a wonderful life together. The author’s pain is very relatable for those who have lost a loved one or cared for a loved on through an illness. The author details what most would do when caring for a sick loved one: becoming an expert on the illness itself: the responsibilities for caring as well as the medical concerns associated with each day. This book is vital to so many. The narrative takes you from laughing at loving memories to the tear filled sadness of tragedy and frustration with medical professionals. I respect the honesty and sincerity behind the message within this book

Can’t hold my tears!
The book hits my heart. The author wrote his traumatic reality of facing an unavoidable diagnosis.
No-one wants to see the loved one dying soon. It is deeply hard to get out of this. The book was well- written, and the narrator’s voice is so great and determines the character. I was overwhelmed with this book. I can’t hold my tears while I am listening to this. It is a true and heart-breaking story; I really love it.
