About this listen

Told he would never sing again, now he's back for his Encore.

'A unique story - told from the heart, with humour and warmth'. Aled Jones

'An emotional read - his personal story is more powerful than that high note in "Nessun Dorma"'. Vernon Kay

Russell Watson was at the peak of his success as a much-loved classical singer. He had gone from humble beginnings, working in a factory making nuts and bolts in Salford to singing in working men's clubs to performing to stadiums filled with thousands of fans.

But then tragedy struck. In 2006 and 2007 he was diagnosed with two brain tumours. In the subsequent years he battled crippling treatment, lifesaving operations, HRT therapy and mental health struggles. Doctors told him he would never sing in the same way again.

Russell was determined to defy the odds and fight his way back - not only to recovery but also to finding his voice again. Now he is singing better than ever, performing internationally again and continues his work as a successful recording artist. In Encore he tells his remarkable story of triumph over tragedy and the resilience he built along the way.

What a nice bloke !

l really loved listening to Russell Watson's " Encore ", he had me in stitches. l liked his sense of humour regarding what he experienced in his life...the ups and the downs. A very down to earth bloke. The first time l heard Russell Watson sing was the theme tune to Star Trek..( sorry l am a trekkie fan) and been aware of him since. Keep singing Russell and adding that bit of being a good human being!!! Buona vita !!

Resillient Russell

A heartwarming recount of his first book, Russell delves deeper into the complexities of his many health scares with honesty and not an ounce of self pity. Mr Watson picks up his journey since having had his two brain tumour operations to reveal his further health scares and the PTSD that followed. Russell's positivity, wicked sense of humour and his solid Salford roots shine through. Fantastically narrated by Russell himself. Bravo.

A heart on the sleeve autobiography

I feel that the way it’s presented and the emotion shown by Russell Watson during the narration of this autobiography makes it a way better experience than you could possibly get by reading the printed page.

If you’ve never met him you get a true feel for the man and his life experiences, including both the ups and the downs. I found it a good listen all the way through but I particularly liked the little bits of singing he did to explain some musical bits which made them easier to understand and I don’t think would come across so well in print, especially for those of us who can’t hold a note in a bucket, they were also entertaining. His openness about his cancer and how it affected him was also very revealing, it must have been a draining and emotional process to have given so much of himself in presenting it.

Well worth a listen.
