Summary
We've got your daughter.
It's evening, you're back late from work - and the house is in darkness.
You step inside, and the phone rings. You answer it - and your world is turned upside down. Your 14-year-old daughter's been taken and her kidnappers demand half a million pounds in cash. They give you 48 hours to raise the money. If you call the police, she will die.
As the nightmare unravels, you can be certain of only two things: that you will do anything to get your daughter back alive - and that time is running out....

Pacy story that keeps you listening
While not quite as good as the author's book, Relentless, this is nevertheless a pacy thriller that certainly kept me listening. The story depends on a fair number of coincidences but the tension is maintained throughout and the twists and turns keep the surprises going until the end. The narrator is good. Maybe because I'm s non-smoker but I do wish that Kernick didn't glamorizes smoking so much in his books.

Not his best
This book contains all the suspense, fast-pace and excitment of his other books but unfortunately all the implausibilty too. It's OK but I found it a bit simple and not particularly gripping. It's a bit like Eastenders, if there's nothing on then a bit of brainless and unchallenging entertaintment fills the gap! Didn't think it was very well read which I found frustrating.

Very Entertaining
A great listen. This narrator really brings the story to life. I enjoyed every chapter and listened to the whole book in one go.
Well worth adding to any library of suspense, thrillers. I've added it to mine, so I can re-listen again and again.

Gripping and tense but some times hard to believe
First book I have tried from this author and I really did enjoy it. I found it addictive and wanted to get a resolution. I did feel some scenes just fell a little flat and so lost the true gritty sense it needed.
I did struggle with the storyline a bit I kept thinking that the main character could have saved a whole lot of grief by acting in a less sensational way. OK I just accepted it was a novel and not real then I enjoyed it.
If you like a bit of tension and evil then this is a good light read.
I will try more from Simon

Tight pacy thriller
Simon Kernick does the same thing with all his books from what I can see. They are tightly plotted, with cartoonish baddies and protagonists who are not especially sympathetic either. The narration is top notch and the books never let go until the end. This was one of the best Kernick books so far.

Another exciting read from Kernick
Loved it! Kept me gripped from start to finish in usual Simon Kernick style! Can't wait to get started on next one by him. Definitely my favourite suspense author and would highly recommend.
