Summary
Some cases should never be reopened…

Like a short story!
It was a great basis for a story, and felt like it was opening up by midway, but then zoomed to the ending. Compacted. Bit disappointing. Half the length of the second book.

Love this series!
I really enjoy this series. It is great to hear a story set around the area I live. The main characters are very likeable and believable, which promotes connection. I felt, however, that this book could have been longer in order to close some gaps. Angus King's narration was perfect as always. I look forward to the next in the series.

Way too short
Love this series and the narration is spot on, however this book felt rushed. It didn’t really develop and the story sprinted to an unsatisfactory end. Still enjoyable, but not great.

Too short
I have read everything this author has written and his Novak and Mitchell books are so full of minute details and descriptions of events and characters as his DCI Lomond books usually are. I just thought this book was brought to an end too soon. It was more like a short story and I wondered how everything was going to be sorted in the last 8 minutes. It was just over too quickly. It just seemed like it was rushed. A bit disappointing really as I loved Raymond’s books. I waited so long for this but it’s not up to his usual standards and it really pains me to say that. Angus King is faultless as usual. His narration is always superb.

Disappointing
It could have been great but it was short on substance and disjointed. Angus King was as good as ever but I wonder whether for some reason (publisher deadlines maybe) we ended up with half a book really. Shame as the author is usually much more diligent.

Did I miss the resolution?!
I really enjoy this author's writing, and the DCI Lomond books so far have been amazing; so full of story and characterisation.
However, this book fell short. It is almost like the publisher said, "You've got half an hour to wrap it up, and then you have to cut 10,000 words."
The last quarter of the book is over far too quickly. The culprit/s, and their arrest/s and interviews, are very 'blink and you'll miss it'. I really don't feel that the big thing at the end is covered in the way that it deserves.
Look forward to the next one, which I'm sure will be back to his usual standard.
(Angus King is the GOAT)

Good Book
I have been enjoying this series very much and although this was a good book, it lacked something in comparison to the previous ones. Having said that, I still recommend this series.
Narration by Angus King is top notch as always.

Half a story?
Another fantastic story brought to life by the outstanding Angus King, but where is the ending? The story started well, tension was building nicely, and just as I was on the edge of my seat, it was brought to a prompt conclusion. It's clear that there'll be a follow on book linked to this as there were too many unanswered questions and loose ends. I enjoyed what I listened to but was left wanting.
