Summary

Leaders are forged in the fires of war. Iron Age warriors Dug and Lowa captured Maidun castle and freed its slaves. But now they have conquered it, they must defend it.

A Roman invasion is coming from Gaul, but rather than uniting to protect their home, the British tribes battle each other - and see Maidun as an easy target.

Meanwhile Lowa's spies infiltrate Gaul, discovering the Romans have recruited bloodthirsty British druids, and Maidunite Ragnall finds his loyalties torn when he meets Rome's charismatic general, Julius Caesar.

War is coming. Who will pay its price?

Excellent

A good story well told. Enjoyed the author's sense of humour. The ending sprung a bit of a twist. All told if you like fiction of this period I highly recommend trilogy

Really Hotting Up Now

This second book is really bringing out all of the characters now. I find Lowa a little naive and find her and Dug's situation quite frustrating. My one real hate so far is Ragnall. I find myself wishing that someone would really end him in the most painful way the sniveling little traitor.

Great sequel

An excellent follow-up to the engaging first book. The characters that you loved (and hated ) are back but this book is far more martial in nature. There are some new players on the scene including the one and only Julius Caesar. The story is full of action , much of it quite gruesome. Great fun but with a powerful ending.

Superb!

I loved this second book, Sean Barrett's narration is faultless and the storyline was brilliant. Just the right combination of drama and humour.

GOOD BOOK

I have over 300 audible titles and I have to say that the narration and performance of this book is one of the best I've heard. It's a compelling universe with a great story and awesome characters

Solid

Like the first in the series this is a solid fantasy novel with enough going for it to keep you entertained. The story is average with only a few twists and suffers from being the middle book in a trilogy. The bad guys are a little too pantomime villain as well. However, all that aside, it's still worth a listen. The narration is great and raises the book up overall.
