About this listen
From the heart and soul of mental-health sufferer Chloe Catchpole and the expert minds of the talented clinical psychologists Dr. Lauren Callaghan and Dr. Annemarie O’Connor, this audiobook is divided into two helpful, cohesive parts.
In part I, we follow Chloe’s desperate struggle with body image and body dysmorphia. We learn about the huge impact it had on her everyday life, drastically affecting her education and career prospects. We witness her journey of painful despair, from a teenager who never really understood the illness tormenting her to a young woman regaining control in her life. Meeting Dr. Callaghan and Dr. O’Connor was a turning point in her life, as they guided her on the road toward recovery and helped her manage the holds her disorder had over her.
Sufferers with any type of body image or anxiety conditions will identify with Chloe’s suffering and the daily struggles she faces. Dr. Callaghan and Dr. O’Connor’s wisdom, expertise, and compassionate approach have enabled Chloe to move on significantly with her life. Their approach is captured perfectly as they provide valuable insight into why and how Chloe struggled with her condition and what needs to be done to ensure her path to recovery and beyond.
Part II is "Pulling the trigger", the definitive survival and recovery approach for overcoming issues with body image and body dysmorphic disorder. It is a unique, user-friendly self-help approach to support and guide mild, moderate, and severe sufferers to a place called recovery and beyond.

While I don't have full blown body dysmorphia, I've had body issues since age 9, and have struggled with disordered eating and purging habits. Although body positivity is now in vogue, and it helps a lot of people, because of my perfectionism, I struggle to apply it to my own body, and I find it difficult to go from the abstract principle (all bodies are worth/beautiful/etc) to living my life as though that were the case.
I've found this book really helpful for its very practical approach for dealing with negatives thoughts as they come and thinking ahead about strategies for dealing with them for the future. For instance, I've realised that I often feel worse about my body in front of the mirror, or when comparing it to someone who I deem to have a better body, but this book has given me ways to work around that. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone with BDD or body image issues.

No accompanying worksheet download😡
Introduction and background story brave and inspiring for people suffering with BDD. Good book but pretty much useless in later section as they keep referring to downloadable worksheets which are not available. Got in touch with Amazon who’s reply was as follows,
We contacted the publisher for the title and confirm the book doesn’t include complementary material after the purchase. We apologise for the inconvenience.
Should mention this before purchasing.😡
