Summary

This is a powerful true story of one young girl's struggle to survive the state-care-system in the 70s and 80s. Amelia has just one wish, to make it through to adulthood and hold her destiny in her own hands. This is a harrowing true story, one of survival and human strength. Amelia has been tragically separated from all her siblings, never to see them again for many years.

Well written but poorly performed

I enjoyed Amelia’s story however the narrator had annoying lift to her voice at the end of almost every sentence. I really detracted from the meaning of the sentence in a lot of instances.

Proof that the choice of narrator is a major factor

If I’d continued reading this book rather than listening I would’ve probably given it 4 or 5 but I just couldn’t get past the young girl from Manchester having an American accent. I gave up after about an hour.
