Summary

Discover Alter, the number one Audible best seller and be prepared to ask yourself, "To survive being lost in the Amazon, what would I...become?"

Stranded in the Amazon rainforest, a lost man fights for survival and discovers that the root of evil doesn’t just reside in the world’s darkest corners, but inside the hearts of all mankind. Dr. Gregory Zekser is on a mission to visit the furthest reaches of the Amazon, providing medical aid to recently contacted tribes.

As a general practitioner and food pantry director, his life in Massachusetts can be chaotic, but serving people is what he does best, and he doesn’t mind sacrificing his personal life to help others, at home or halfway around the world. But any hope of returning home to his wife, daughter, and comfortable life are eradicated when the small plane carrying him back to civilization plummets into the unknown depths of the jungle.

Swallowed by endless green, with both pilots dead, Greg struggles to stay alive in a world that wants to infect his body, suck him dry, and eat him whole. Ravaged by illness and dehydration, and stalked by a ruthless predator, Greg’s life teeters on the edge of oblivion until a scream lets him know that he is not alone.

His first encounter with an uncontacted tribe ends in death - the first of many. Driven to the brink of madness, and then beyond, Greg finds himself caught up in a feud that existed before his arrival, but will only end with his death - or his enemies’.

International best-selling author, Jeremy Robinson, the master of taking creative and original concepts and fusing them with realistic and emotive characters, explores the depths to which a man can descend, and what it takes to climb back out.

Amazing! Actually gutted when it ended

I loved this book so much. It gripped me from the start! The character development and Greg's descent into madness is amazing.
Tense, funny, heart wrenchingly sad, and happy. Absolutly fantastic. 100% reccomend

Jaguar

When his small plane crashes in the uncharted rainforest jungle, killing both pilots, a gentle and cultured medical doctor finds himself alone in the alien world about him with few skills to survive beyond his ardent desire to get home to his beloved wife and child. With little hope of rescue, he must adapt to the new environment to stay alive and, as his outer life alters, so does his inner perception.

This astonishingly visceral and powerfully emotional book, performed to perfection by Luke Daniels, sweeps the reader along through the ride: fantastic visually, there is action, horror, fear, love, lust, remembering but also beauty and discovery. It truly is a book to pull hard and challenge our ideas. The joining of Mr.Daniels as narrator and the story by Jeremy Robinson is inspired, the book increasing it's power through the emotional interpretation of the spoken word.

This book really surprised me, being, in many ways, more of an experience than a simple story. And it left me emotionally exhausted. My deep thanks to the rights holder of Alter, who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. Perhaps not for the very squeamish but for everyone else I recommend it wholeheartedly. And this is one of those very rare books I know I will re-read again in the future.

A good fun story with great narration

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The Book

I haven't ever read a book quite like this but the idea of it appealed to me for the adventurous nature of it. I wasn't dissappointed.

The story starts out in ways you might expect with hardship and danger but I found the changes to it when he learned to survive in the jungle as another person the most interesting part of it. The earlier sequences where he was stoned and thinking about his old life were quite comical and the references to current TV whilst amusing now might be lost on anyone reading/listening to this later. I think the character was good and his journey from hopeless western man to jungle god was very well done, it was a gradual change that aside from the obvious 'supernatural' aspects was believable.

The ending I found quite moving, both his lives had been shattered but he managed to consolidate his two lives and this gave him a purpose and a way to protect both aspects. It wasn't a typical mushy happy ending it was bittersweet but I think the main thing was that it was hopeful.

The Production

The narration was superb, he did voices well had just the right tones and emotions to suit the scenes and covered comedy, action and emotion well. Can't fault it.
