Summary

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created with Alien: Covenant, a new chapter in his groundbreaking Alien adventure. The movie sucked...

But this book was ace! Really put right and made sense of a lot of the flaws and discrepancies in the rather rushed and badly edited film. If the film had been more like this book, (a longer running time and a little more depth) it would've been way better.

So anyone disappointed by alien covenant I recommend this book, it's the story the film should've been

Better than the film.

Now I like the film, but it has many short comings in the story and character actions. The Alan Dean Foster adaptation and audible version addresses a lot of these with simple changes and make such a difference. You will wonder why the film markers didn't.

Nope...

Just as boring and un-alienlike as the movie. This franchise needs a reeboot. And soon!

Surprisingly much better than the film.

I added this book to my Audible library as I'm both a fan Alien series (across films, books & comics) and the master of film novelisations himself Alan Dean Foster. However, I'll freely admit to not looking forward to starting this release, due to not enjoying the movie.

Come the close mind you I was glad I picked up the Audible release, for everything feels that bit more human. Getting into the crews lives and knowing them ever so slightly more really helps.

The stupidity of the team had also been erased, they are now a fully-fledged team that actually are capable of completing a mission. They are no longer morons in space.

A certain amount of praise needs to be added to Tom Taylorson for his delivery of the main characters here also, especially with Walter/David. Though I would have liked his 'Shouting Daniels' to have received a bit more work.

If you're considering giving Alien: Covenant another chance I'd honestly settle for this Audible release instead. You'll be far more impressed.

Standard alien story

I've not seen the film version but it follows on from the story in Prometheus. It's standard Alien fare a spaceship lands on a planet and the crew are attacked by xenomorphs followed by their fight for survival. There is little new, and the narration can't build the same level of tension of the live cast audible originals stories let alone a movie. A decent enough story for fans of aliens
The narration is ok but some of the female voices grate at times.

Better than origins

I have enjoyed this book. I listened to Book 1 and I found it not engaging so I postponed listening to Book 2 just in case.
Im glad I did, I am familiar with the movies so no surprises in the stories but I still liked this book 2 a lot.
It engaged much more than the previous and I found myself wanting to keep listening.

Slow start but hooked

A really good listen, I’ve been a. Fan of the Alien franchise as well as AVP. I really good listen, slow at the start but that’s necessary to build the story. Once it flows it’s incredible.

Flawed story, flawed performance

hugely enjoyable opening out of the film's story - giving more time to characterisation and ironing out some of the screenplay's flaws, while creating some of its own. I liked the slight changing of some of the ending's reveals - making it much less clunky and satisfying. The narration is really great - most of the time. The voice characterisation is spot on but why does he modulate to a weird muted high pitch for shouting - suspense and excitement is ruined as it started to sound like The Muppet Show(!?)

Good telling of s disappointing prequel

As with any novelisation, the added details and characters inner thoughts help flesh out the story.
