The official movie tie-in novelization of the highly anticipated sequel to 2009's blockbuster feature film Star Trek!

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

The narrator was awful...

Narrator wasn't the right choice. Good actress, terrible narrator. Preferred Zachary Quinto. Star Trek audios are few and far between so its disappointing when one does come out and the narrator spoils it.

Brilliant

This was a thoroughly enjoyable audiobook. I agree with other reviewers that there is a slight narrator mismatch but she does improve steadily after the first few minutes so don't let it put you off.

mismatch of story and reader

I enjoy adventure stories every once in a while and I had been looking forward to this one on the basis of the audible recording of the previous Star Trek movie tie-in narrated by Zachary Quinto. Unfortunately I did not notice the change of narrator and did not listen to the audio sample before purchasing the book.
Whilst I am sure Alice Eve is a very good reader for other types of books, I found her to be completely mismatched with this style of story. The first hour was a real struggle. It felt like being read to by my teacher in junior school and I kept expecting to be asked to spell a complicated word at the end of each sentence. As i found my way into the story, I became more willing to put up with her stye of reading, but it remained irritating right to the end.
The story as a whole is enjoyable. But again the reader's interpretation detracts from the various, despite listening to it once, I will delete it from my library.
So in short: worthwhile for the story line but hard work to listen to.
I would be very interested to hear how other listeners felt.

Not the right reader for this

Would you listen to Star Trek Into Darkness again? Why?

No I'm afraid not. Good story but not enough differences in characterisations.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Star Trek Into Darkness?

Overall good story but a bit slow to start.

What three words best describe Alice Eve’s performance?

studied, bit dull

Any additional comments?

Definitely the wrong person to read this type of story. Hasn't the oomph needed for this.

Not the right reader

The narrator was wrong for a Star Trek book, when she stated she reminded me of a school girl reading out a book report. After a while I got used to it and very much enjoyed the book

quite enjoy it

What about Alice Eve’s performance did you like?

I love Alice's voice and accent yet I understand why others think this may be mismatched. This is a story with so many male characters so sometimes I think is it inappropriate asking a female performer to read this? But I really love her voice so... It's quite struggling

Disappointed -

I should have paid more attention or tried a sample but saw the title and Alan Dean Foster and clicked Buy Buy Buy.
Mistake. Almost did not complete and will not listen again.
I must admit to being an aging Trekkie who remembers fondly the 1st Startrek TV series and immediately found I was having problems with a female narrator and the rewriting of StarTrek history. But I tried to put prejudice aside.
Story is a tad clunky and obvious - the film connection presumably - but genuinely exciting at times. Its Star Trek. Ripping Yarn country rather than the literary prize end of the market.
Enjoying or being irritated by the qualities of a voice is very subjective so I do not want to make this read like a personal attack on a narrator who speaks very clearly and at a decent tempo. But it was a bit of a funny accent fest - (in memory of James Doohan?) and does not suit the book. I am unlikely to buy any more Alice Eve audiobooks.

Meh

Struggled to finish this. Alice Eve reads this as if it's story time in pre-school, so a great young adult novel (written by an author who has really made his way in the realm of screenplay adaptations) feels no more sophisticated than The Gruffalo. Sorry, Alan. Your book was ruined by poor casting.
