Summary

Separated by time, connected by blood, united by bravery.

Alex Cross tells the irresistible story - passed down through the generations - of an ancestor's courageous fight for freedom.

From his grandmother, Alex Cross has heard the story of his great-uncle Abraham and his struggles for survival in the era of the Ku Klux Klan. Now, Alex passes the family tale along to his own children in a novel he's written - a novel called Trial.

As a lawyer in early-twentieth-century Washington DC, Ben Corbett represents the toughest cases. Fighting against oppression and racism, he risks his family and his life in the process. When President Theodore Roosevelt asks Ben to return to his hometown to investigate rumours of the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan there, he cannot refuse. When he arrives in Eudora, Mississippi, Ben meets the wise Abraham Cross and his beautiful daughter, Moody. Ben enlists their help, and the two Crosses introduce him to the hidden side of the idyllic Southern town. Lynchings have become commonplace and residents of the town's black quarter live in constant fear. Ben aims to break the reign of terror - but the truth of who is really behind it could break his heart.

Written in the fearless voice of Detective Alex Cross, Alex Cross's Trial is a gripping story of murder, love, and, above all, bravery.

A great history lesson

This was a great book teaching how far we have come but still have a lot more to do.

This story shows how the Deep South was and some say still is. Thank you James Patterson

Came across so real, like I was actually there.

The narrator brought the book to life. Got upset over areas to know the history

Brilliant

Very different, but well written and quite sad and thought provoking. Would recommend as something completely different.

Another good story

Good narration, to think its based on true events is horrifying, what a terrible time.

Don’t judge a book by its cover..!

Bought this without looking at description so was initially disappointed that it wasn’t the next in the series… however, within minutes I was gripped and ended up listening to the whole book in record time. Excellent book, tragically based on the horrific real events of the time & a good reminder to not let history repeat itself. Would highly recommend this to both Alex cross/James Patterson fans & those with an interest in the historic period covered.

An excellent story.

What an excellent story, bringing to reality the horrors, injustice and prejudice of former years.
