Virginia Somerset came late to the Jane Austen fan club. She sheepishly credits Bridget Jones' Diary as her first exposure to the plot of Pride and Prejudice. However, her love for the original novels, the complexity of characters and relationships, and the inimitable beauty of the prose eventually inspired Virginia to write a possible explanation for the curious behavior of Mr. Darcy on the night of his introduction to Elizabeth Bennet. Was this an exercise in audacity–to create a companion to one of the greatest novels in the English language? Absolutely. Was it satisfying? Utterly and completely. Virginia lives in a little yellow house in a college town in California with her family, her pets, and her garden. If you hold still for long enough, she is likely to knit something for you.
