Sheena Vernon has been a freelance journalist, a magazine editor, and many other things. When living in Dublin she learnt that Handel's Messiah was launched there and that gave her the push to research the composer; her novel is possibly the first to feature the momentous debut of one of the most enduring pieces of music to be sung in English. Sheena Vernon has two daughters: one a nurse, the other an opera singer, and lives with her husband and much loved llasa apso in the bohemian confines of Brighton.
