I'm a writer by trade and inclination, the award-winning author of two Midlife Moxie novels, Reinventing Rita and Finding Fran (both by BookBaby), four short story collections: The Language of Love and Other Stories, Mistletoe Magic and Other Holiday Tales, Traveling Left of Center and Other Stories, and Peripheral Visions and Other Stories (all by Unsolicited Press), and three non-fiction books: The Gifts of Change (Atria/Beyond Words) and Rut-Busting Book for Writers and Rut-Busting Book for Authors (both by BookBaby). Moving Maggie, my third Midlife Moxie novel, is coming in 2025.

While I enjoy writing in the non-fiction category, my greatest passion is, and always has been, for fiction. I have been making up stories since I was a child, engaging in "what if" and "let's pretend" activities that took me far beyond my northeastern Ohio home. And I'm still doing it, only now in written form.
Over the years, my short stories have been accepted by publications such as The Saturday Evening Post, Toasted Cheese, Streetlight, Talking River, Bethlehem Writers Roundtable, St. Anthony Messenger, Wild Violet, EWR: Short Stories, Hypertext, Full of Crow, Fiction365, Red Fez, and The Chaffin Journal. Several of my stories have also earned placement in national competitions.
Why fiction? Because I love the world of make-believe. I love learning about my characters, following them as they live their lives, rejoicing with them when things go well and commiserating with them when life becomes painful and events are almost unendurable. It is less a question of writing fiction as recounting what they choose to tell me. I am their conduit, their confidante; I wait for their stories and then do my best to put them in written form so others can understand what they have done, what they have experienced and why they are the way they are.
Crazy? Maybe. But you have to be a little crazy to spend your days and nights with people only you can see and hear.
