Hi, this is Danny Quintana. I am the president of the Global High Seas Marine Preserve, a non-profit education organization that works on ocean environmental issues. The proceeds of my books go to fund our global public education campaign. By 2048, the majority of the ocean's fisheries are going to collapse unless we take some immediate action. We are working with universities, government and private industry to spread the following message: When people are on the beach enjoying the sun and water, they cannot see the damage that is taking place under the waves. Time is of the essence on global environmental problems. Unless we immediately change our fishing and consumption practices, by 2050, the majority of global fisheries will collapse. The global public is not aware of the following grim facts: -Half of the wildlife in the oceans is gone. -At least 90 percent of the large predator fish have been killed off. -Humans are killing over 200,000 sharks each day for shark fin soup. -We are losing the coral reefs to bleaching and destructive fishing practices. -We keep dumping garbage into the oceans. -There is the continuing damage of climate change with acidification and warming of the oceans. We can change this destructive path. I am encouraging all of you to get your exercise by going for walks by rivers, streams along the beaches and pick up garbage. If you live more than 100 miles from the oceans, don't eat seafood. Never buy seafood from another country. It is an environmental disaster and is not sustainable. Other countries are emptying out the oceans. Working together, we can solve our environmental problems. In my last book, "Copernicus was Mistaken, Why the Earth is Still the Center of the Universe", I advocate cleaning up the entire planet and restoring the natural world by reforestation as global economic policy. It will be labor intensive and create millions of jobs and entire new industries. Be optimistic. It is only hopeless when you give up. We will succeed because failure is not an option.
