Andrea Frediani was born in 1963 in Rome, where he still lives and works. He already showed a marked predilection for history as a kid. After graduating at the university of Rome in Medieval History, he started a long-standing contribution to the prestigious magazines. In the meantime, the publishing company Newton & Compton gave him the opportunity to write his first book, Gli assedi di Roma, which was published in 1997 and won the Orient Express prize as best work in the field of Roman studies in 1998. Since then, almost all his books have been published by the same company. The turning point in his career came in 2007, when he published his first novel, 300 guerrieri, la battaglia delle Termopili, reaching number 7 in the chart of Italian fiction best-sellers. With Il trionfo di Cesare, in 2011, he won the Selezione Bancarella prestigious prize. On the whole, his books published so far have sold more than one million copies in Italy alone. Currently he's a member of the scientific committee of the bimonthly magazine Focus WARS, and he's consultant for Newton Compton's historical publications. His books have been published also in Spain, Greece, Brazil, Slovenia, Poland, England and Serbia. In England he is also known as Andrew Frediani.
