After the death of Thomas Reid, his widow, Caroline sells the beloved lodge that she and her husband started, and she flees back to Charleston, SC. Malcolm Dargie and his fiancée, Molly, hope to complete their best friends' dream. They finish the remaining work soon after the wedding at their new home, which most villagers in the small town attended.

Castles in the Rain begins with the arrival of two new Reid family members, Carter and Cade Reid, who are fresh out of law school at the College of Charleston. They arrive to new staff members, but the remaining trauma from the loss of Malcolm and Molly Dargie hangs over them. Nevertheless, these two young men stand innocently before the haughty manor with dreams of their futures. Quickly, the two men attain their dreams of meeting the women of their dreams. Next, the goal of a family for each, but that aspiration meets with tragedy. Still, the brothers remain hopeful.
