In this interview, geneticist Dr Giles Yeo discusses how genes influence our eating habits and tells us about his key areas of research. He visited Audible Studios to talk about his audiobook, Gene Eating: The Science of Obesity, and the truth about diets, and we talked about what role scientists should play in our ‘post-truth’ world, how much we know about the gut microbiome and why we should avoid extreme diets.

Best known for her magical role as Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter series, Lynch has since branched into a stage career, including a role as Bess Houdini in Houdini, which toured the UK, and short films, such as 'My Name Is Emily'. Alongside her acting career, Lynch's activism has led her to campaign for animal rights and veganism. She has starred in short films to this end, launched a podcast titled Chickpeeps with the aim of educating others on being a vegan, and founded a cruelty-free cosmetics brand, Kinder Box.

Joining us at Audible Studios is author, journalist and economics and politics commentator, Grace Blakeley. We’ll be chatting with Grace Blakeley about Vulture Capitalism, her latest book which exposes corporate crimes, reveals the truth of the free market and demonstrates the issues with capitalism. We’ll find out how everyday people are being forgotten while the uber-rich are benefitting, and how we, as everyday people, can take control back.

Blue is a Ghanaian Londoner, currently residing in Essex, with a past working in therapy. Her first publication, Psychotherapy, is a collection of poetry exploring the conscious, subconscious and unconscious processes of an ex-therapist trying to leave that world behind. Bad Love, Blue’s novel debut, focuses on Ekuah’s experiences of love, success and the difficult navigation of choices between the two. We chatted to Maame Blue about writing Bad Love, her inclusion in the #TwentyIn2020 initiative and finding her voice as a writer.

Theroux began his career in America working on Michael Moore's TV Nation, and from this sprang his Weird Weekends (1998-2000) where Theroux spent time on porn sets, with swingers, body builders and white supremacists, to name but a few. Omar El Akkad joins us in the Audible Studios to discuss his debut novel, American War. Having spent 10 years as a journalist reporting on subjects such as the war in Afghanistan and military trials in Guantanamo Bay, Omar has turned his attentions to dystopian fiction in American War. Set in 2074, the novel portrays a world where climate change and political uprisings have transformed everything as we know it - and civil war has broken out in America.

Her latest collection, Slug, covers topics from birth to death, sex to sexism and many other everyday challenges we face in the 21st century.
