The Christmas trees in Knightsbridge sparkle with festive joy, and there’s nothing more fun than Christmas cocktail parties to ring in the new year of 1922. She still pines for home in Whitechapel, even though she isn't sure what would be waiting for her should she ever return. She knows if Arnold has his way, she will be in Secunderabad, as his wife and hostess, a trophy wife, until he has reached the pinnacle of his ambitions.
