Jimmy Hoffa, born James Riddle Hoffa on February 14th, 1913, in Brazil, Indiana, was a prominent American labor union leader. He was president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) from 1957 until 1971. Hoffa was known for his tough negotiating skills and efforts to centralize the union's administration and bargaining power. However, his career was also marred by allegations of ties to organized crime.
Hoffa's life took a dramatic turn when he was convicted of jury tampering, attempted bribery, and fraud in 1964, leading to a 13-year prison sentence. He was released in 1971 after President Richard Nixon commuted his sentence, but he was prohibited from engaging in union activities until 1980.
On July 30th, 19 75, Hoffa mysteriously disappeared from a parking lot in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, after a supposed meeting with mob figures. Despite extensive investigations, his body has never been found, and his disappearance remains one of the most famous unsolved cases in American history.
