  • Episode 199 | Terry Angelos | Fine Artist, Wife Mother, Author White Trash
    Oct 26 2021

In this episode, I chat with Terry about her book White Trash My Year As A High-Class Call Girl.

This is an incredibly raw and real account of a year in the life of the author. In my opinion, a book that took incredible bravery to write and is a must-read.

    About this book:

Raised during the Rhodesian bush war and immigrating to SA at the age of 11, Terry is shaped by a white culture that is racist, unstable and deeply divided. Her childhood is bizarre as adults around her insist on living their version of normality while the world falls apart. White Trash is a remarkable memoir told with savage honesty as the narrator unravels what it means to be a white African. It's also a story about finding a shard of light amidst the depravity in a quest to reinvent the self.   http://www.nb.co.za/en/view-book/?id=9781990973383   https://www.wattsinvolved.com/

  • Episode 198 | Phakamisa Ndzamela | Author, financial journalist, scholar, and a bit of a Historian
    Oct 19 2021

In this episode, I chat with Phakamisa about his latest book entitled Native Merchants The Building Of The Black Business Class In South Africa.  This is a fantastic book and has a look at history not many of us are aware of.

Dispossession of fertile, mineral-rich land is correctly repeated as the root cause of the economic precarity of Black people in South Africa. Colonial wars are rightly foregrounded but in a way that frames black people as having existed outside of the organised enterprise. This book builds and adds dimension to the picture of black people’s economic participation, taking the narrative from pre-colonial mining and spanning the colonial and apartheid periods, detailing tactics of economic exclusion.

  • Episode 197 | Allen Ambor | Business man, entrepreneur, author, yoga instructor wit A Taste For Life
    Oct 19 2021

In this episode, I chat with Allen about his younger days and his roller coaster journey through life as he starts the restaurant chain we all know and love.

So join  Allen Ambor on a rock ’n’ roll ride through the restaurant business and pioneering days of franchising in South Africa. Allen's exuberance for life and exacting management style shines through on every page of this memoir of a man who went from being a hippy waiter to opening the first Spur in 1967 and growing it into an empire that included more than 500 franchises under the Spur, Panarottis, John Dory’s and RocoMamas brands.

And he now teaches Yoga how cool is that?
