  • Always Cheat & Always Win: Episode 419
    Nov 26 2024

Roderick McLean said it was important to 'always cheat: always win'. A larger than life character, McLean, known as 'Popeye', was sent to prisom when police and customs officers captured a gang of eight drug smugglers off the Caithness coast. During the raid customs officer Alastair Souter was killed when he fell and was crushed between a customs cutter and the gang's boat. The drugs haul netted three tons of cannabis, valued at £10 million.

McLean, the gang leader, was convicted and sentenced to 28 years in prison. But there is so much more than this to the story - not everything is quite as it seems.

  • A Random Attack: Episode 418
    Nov 19 2024

In the story this week from Cardiff, 26 year old Geraldine Palk was enjoying her life - she had a close family, lots of friends and a job she enjoyed. One night, she had been out with work colleagues in the City Centre and left the club after midnight. She shared a taxi home with three other people, and was dropped just yards from her home. But she never made it to the front door. The next day Geraldine's body was discovered by children playing.

Just who had killed Geraldine? And why?

For this bonus episode, I sat down for a chat with Stuart Blues, who hosts the popular British Murders Podcast.

Stuart is someone who always says exactly what he thinks and I was keen to talk with him and find out all about how his show has evolved, where it is going - and to find out a bit more about the man behind the microphone. I hope you enjoy.

Brilliant

I absolutely love these podcasts. The stories are detailed and interesting, & are delivered in an entertaining manner. I also enjoy the year and month game at the beginning of the podcasts, which sets the scene time-wise. Well done Adam!

Great show!

I thoroughly enjoy listening to these episodes. The fact that they are in bitesize portions makes them appealing for shorter car journeys and walks that I do. Or even when I am doing jobs around the house and garden. The detail is very good and if it is a more complex story, it will become a 2 part podcast. I first found them on Spotify, but now follow on audible. I can’t wait for the next new episode. Thank you.

A brilliant addition to my week

I first came across this podcast on Spotify which was great for me but finding it here just makes me want to listen to every episode again!
I highly recommend if you are interested in true crime but prefer a short summary of cases, most episodes are 20 ish minutes so they're great for snapshots of events. Very easy listen!

Factual, Charismatic, Witty & Empathetic

Been a massive fan for a long time. I really struggle with American accents so this is my absolute favourite podcast!
The stories are well researched and to the point. The host adds a touch of lightness before and after the story which takes the tension off the content.
A podcast that 100% doesn't take itself seriously and is delivered with such empathy for the victim.
I just cannot recommend this more! 👌

Bite size chunks of crime

Apart from the advertising at the beginning, which I know is necessary, I found these interesting and very well written. And because they’re short and informative it’s easy listening for a short journey in the car or when doing jobs around the house. Will be listening to more, and recommending to others with an interest in true crime.
