Daily Ski Conditions for Mammoth Mountain, California

Hey there, snow enthusiasts Let's dive into the latest scoop on Mammoth Mountain, California. As of January 1, the base depth is a solid 49 inches, with 23 out of 24 lifts open and ready to take you to the top[1]. The snow conditions are fantastic, with machine-groomed mid-winter packed powder on the groomers from Canyon Lodge to Main Lodge and the Outpost. The wind has buffed out the snow surface to perfection, especially on the mid and upper mountain faces, making for some nice flat wind buff off the groomers[2].

Currently, the weather is clear and sunny, with temperatures ranging from 29°F at the base to 22°F at the summit, and a gentle 4 mph wind[4]. However, by Friday, a weak system will kick up the winds and bring in a few clouds and a chance of snow showers in the evening. The weekend looks bluebird, with light to moderate winds and temperatures in the lower 40s, perfect for those who love skiing under clear skies[3].

Looking ahead, the long-range forecast suggests a change in the pattern around January 21, with some snowfall expected to end the month and possibly extend into mid-February. But for now, we're in the midst of the dreaded January thaw, so enjoy the current conditions while they last[3].

For those who love exploring off-piste, the conditions are great, with nice flat wind buff on the mid and upper mountain faces. Locals recommend starting from the Top of Face Lift Express and skiing down Saddle Bowl to Gremlins to St Anton to the New Broadway Express for some of the best runs[2].

As for the season total, last year was a record-breaker with over 700 inches at Main Lodge and close to 900 inches at the summit. While we're not there yet this season, the snow is plentiful and the skiing is fantastic[5].

So, pack your gear and hit the slopes Just remember, the Ikon Pass is blacked out until the new year, so expect more crowds as we move into January. But with the current conditions and upcoming weather forecast, it's going to be a great time to be on the mountain. See you out there
