Why use a word when a chapter will do

Went on a little too long for me. Seemed to be three stories ( the Hereford murder, the Christie disappearance and the Golden age of Crime Writing) joined only in a way two cats fighting might be.
Could you Saxons please remember this Island nation is called BRITAIN not England.
