Emperor Yekuno Amlak and the Solomonic Restoration

  • Summary

  • In 1270, the Ethiopian Empire experienced a monumental change as a young prince from a fallen dynasty rose up and seized the throne, restoring his ancient bloodline to the throne.  His name was Yekuno Amlak, and the Dynasty he restored would rule over Ethiopia until 1974. Yekuno Amlak displaced the Zagwe Dynasty, which had been most famous for its saintly monarchs and its devoutness, with the help of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo church.  This is the story of how this came about.
