  • Psychedelics and Connectedness: Bodhi & Niko the Full conversation
    Aug 25 2024

First: how we got introduced to psychedelics, then what it is really like, what most people get wrong about the drugs, science, and finally my most recent psychedelic experience where we took a high dose of about 25mg of psilocybin (4gs of dried mushrooms). Before someone decides to take psychedelics, we recommend doing much more research and choosing a setting wisely. Me and Niko are not experts in psychology or neuroscience, but we offer general guidance from our own research and our personal experiences.

If you learn anything from this podcast its the following:

-BODILY SAFETY: If you aren't genetically prone to psychosis/schizophrenia, psilocybin (magic mushrooms) are one of the safest recreational drugs you can take (yes more than alcohol, and weed)

-Set and setting are key, while the drug won't do anything to you internally, there are risks just due to impairment, so being in a safe area (without streets to run into or any sort of physical threat), as well as a sober guide

-Therapeutic Experiences that lead to lasting positive change, like the one I and Niko talk about, require specific instructions: Intention, eye mask (to go "in"), music, laying down, sober guide, and high dose (20-30 mg of psilocybin, which depending on the type of mushroom can be anywhere from 3-6 grams)

SURPRISING? Why may this be surprising to you? It's now well understood that the negative outlook the public has on psychedelics started with the Nixon administration's "war on drugs", which believed that psychedelics were transforming people into "hippies", leading to mass protests against the Vietnam War in the name of "peace and love". Many stories about the drugs "scrambling your brains" came out of misleading government-funded advertisements, which new research has largely falsified. It's a shame such a decision was made, 40 years after these laws were made, a new era coined the "psychedelic renaissance" is in full swing as promising new research in mental health treatment.

If you want the strict science we recommend the documentary "The Mind Explained (episode: psychedelics)" or Andrew Huberman's podcast: "How psilocybin can rewire our brain". New science and research around psychedelics can be found in the news everywhere, and there are plenty of great sources.
