  • BLAZE STREET MUSIC PRESENTS - MUSIC OF A LIFETIME EPISODE #41 - THE LEGACY MUSIC OF QUINCY JONES, PT. 2
    Jan 6 2025

ALOHA! PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING 👍🏾 I APPRECIATE YOU!

MUSIC OF A LIFETIME EPISODE #41 - THE FOREVERLASTING LEGACY OF THE MUSIC OF QUINCY DELITE JONES, JR (14 March, 1933 - 3 Nov, 2024), PART TW0

ALOHA FRIENDS. BACK ON 9 NOV 2024, I DID PART ONE OF MY FOREVER LEGACY SALUTE TO THE LATE GREAT QUINCY JONES, WHO PASSED ON NOV 3RD. IN THAT EPISODE I FOCUSED ON THOSE SONGS THAT I FEEL FOR ME, ARE MY FAVORITE SONGS. WHICH AS IT TURNED OUT, THESE SONGS WERE MOSTLY SONGS THAT WERE RELEASED IN ALBUMS OR LP’S THAT TITLED UNDER THE NAME, ‘QUINCY JONES’.

IN THIS EPISODE, I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THE MUSIC OF SOME OF MY FAVORITE SONGS THAT QUINCY PRODUCED AND RECORDED WITH OTHER ARTISTS, WHICH TO ME SOMEWHAT STANDS ALMOST IN AN EQUAL SPACE OF WHAT HE DID PRODUCING MUSIC WITH OTHER ARTISTS IN THOSE RELEASES THAT HAD HIS NAME ON THE TOPLINE.

SOME OF THE ARTISTS I’LL HIGHLIGHT IN THIS EPISODE ARE PATTI AUSTIN, JAMES INGRAM, OF COURSE, MICHAEL JACKSON…DONNA SUMMER…GEORGE BENSON, THE BROTHERS JOHNSON…RUFUS FEATURING CHAKA KHAN…THIS MUSIC WILL SPAN THE YEARS FROM 1977 TO 1982. JUST CONSIDER IN THOSE YEARS, QUINCY JONES COMPLETED A BODY OF WORK THAT CAN BE COMPARED TO ANYONE OF HIS PEERS IN IT’S TERMS OF SHEER WORK BUT WHEN YOU CONSIDER JUST SOME OF WHAT HE DID IN THOSE YEARS AND I’M GOING TO JUST THROW THIS OUT THERE…AS NOT ONLY DID HE PRODUCE WORK WITH THESE ARTISTS BUT HE ALSO WORKED ON SOUNDTRACKS FOR ‘THE WIZ’ AND ROOTS…ALONG WITH SEVERAL OF HIS OWN RECORDINGS (SOUNDS AND STUFF LIKE THAT…THE DUDE). IF YOU DONT KNOW BY NOW, THE BODY OF WORK THAT QUINCY JONES CREATED DURING HIS OVER 70 YEARS IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS IS CONSIDERED BY MANY - INCLUDING ME - TO BE THE GREATEST EVER CREATED. SO AS I’VE SAID BEFORE, I JUST NEED YOU TO JUST SETTLE IN, CHILL OUT WITH ME, AND LISTEN TO SOME OF THE BEST MUSIC EVER MADE, IT’S THE MUSIC OF MY LIFETIME…BLAZE STREET MUSIC PRESENTS, MY FOREVER LEGACY TRIBUTE TO QUINCY JONES, PART TWO.

“ALL ABOUT THE HEAVEN” - BROTHERS JOHNSON, FROM THEIR 1980 LP, ‘LIGHT UP THE NIGHT’

“STATE OF INDEPENDENCE” - DONNA SUMMER, FROM HER 1982 QUINCY JONES PRODUCED LP SIMPLY TITLED ‘DONNA’

“STAR OF THE STORY” - GEORGE BENSON, FROM 1980’S ‘GIVE ME THE NIGHT’

“BABY, COME TO ME” - PATTI AUSTIN, FROM 1981’S ‘EVERY HOME SHOULD HAVE ONE’, HER FIRST DUET WITH JAMES INGRAM

“IT’S YOUR NIGHT” - FROM JAMES INGRAM’S DEBUT 1983, OF THE SAME NAME

“HEAVEN BOUND” - RUFUS, FT. CHAKA KHAN, FROM THE SMASH ‘MASTERJAM’ RELEASED IN 1979

“RUNNIN FOR YOUR LOVIN” - BROTHERS JOHNSON. TITLE TRACK FROM THEIR 1977 LP AND MY ALL TIME FAVE SONG BY THE BROS. JOHNSON

“IT’S THE FALLING IN LOVE” - MICHAEL JACKSON & PATTI AUSTIN, FROM 1979'S SMASH "OFF THE WALL", WHICH IS ALSO ALBUM #3 ON MY ALL-TIME LIST

“LOVE ME TO DEATH” - PATTI AUSTIN. FROM THE 1981 LP TITLED “EVERY HOME SHOULD HAVE ONE”

“BABY BE MINE” - MICHAEL JACKSON - ANOTHER GEM, FROM THE BEST SELLING MUSICAL RECORDING OF ALL TIME, 1982’S ‘THRILLER’, WHICH IS #8 ON MY ALL-TIME LIST

  • BLAZE STREET MUSIC PRESENTS - MUSIC OF A LIFETIME EPISODE #40 - THE LEGACY MUSIC OF QUINCY JONES
    Nov 10 2024

ALOHA! PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING 👍🏾 I APPRECIATE YOU!

On 3 November, 2024 - the world, the universe lost a legend. The incomparable Quincy Delite Jones, Jr. He was also known to his closest friends simply as 'Q'. It is really hard to put into words the accomplishments of Mr. Quincy Jones. He passed away at the age of 91 and of his 91 years, more that 70 of those years were spent in the world of music. From his first love during his very young teenage years, Quincy would quickly develop such an incredible talent for learning everything and anything musical. There is soo much to his story, his legacy and his LEGEND that its hard to put it all into words or a simple podcast episode here. So I won't.

Here is a link to a good source of information on his life, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quincy_Jones.

Quincy Jones is my musical hero. I've been a true fan of his life and his music since I was about 10, 11 years old. In 1976 I listened to one of his albums titled "I Heard That", a double album released that year on A&M records that included mostly tracks of his greatest hits at the time and a few new songs as well. I was 14 years old. And from then on, I was hooked. I wanted to be like him. Understand music like he did, work with some of the greatest artists in music - just like he did. I wanted to be a "genius" like him because everyone already knew, that Quincy Jones was a genius.

During my growing years, his music was all over the radio in songs like "Sanford & Son" theme, "Mellow Madness", "KIller Joe", and many others. But lest not forget; it was his songs with other artists that would really get the world's attention. Such artists as Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughn...The Brothers Johnson....Rufus featuring Chaka Khan...Michael Jackson, George Benson, Donna Summer and the list goes on and on and on.

I've done three other episodes on my podcast about Quincy Jones because he's larger than life in my musical heart and soul. The last episode I did was in July, 2023, when I did an episode to celebrate the 37th release from my 50th greatest list - Quincy Jones "Sounds...and Stuff Like That," which was released in 1978.
You see, on my 50th greatest lists or records and albums of my life, Quincy Jones has three releases. Three.

This is part one of my salute to Q. In this episode, Im playing some of my favorite songs from his albums. Quincy Jones had several albums where he was the headliner but he put together a great, no UNBELIEVABLE AND TALENTED supporting cast of musicians, writers, and vocalists to achieve his artistic vision. All of the songs here on the episode from albums that bear his name. In the next episode I'll put together my the favorite tracks that he did FOR OTHER ARTISTS...it will showcase Quincy Jones the producer.

Quincy Jones may have left the studio. But there's no doubt that his spirit will forever linger on. Enjoy!
