    Aug 11 2023

In our 17th Episode, we join in with a special guest, Lindsy Floyd, of Connecticut to discuss how life has been for her since her release from prison. We talked of her privileged upbringing, heading off to prison, as well as navigating life after a few traumatic years inside the walls. Having received a phone call from her father that he had just seen her on the news & wanted for 'Murder'... her whole life would change in the flash of a moment...

There were many instances in our interview that I could relate back to my own prison experiences; in the same feelings, emotions, & perspective toward a once delicate time of incarceration. We appreciate & applaud Lindsy for taking the time to share her story & experiences with not only us.. but the world. Through the necessary conversations we have, (sometimes hard)... we take the necessary steps toward the change we must see.

  • The Jeffrey Deskovic Interview: the Failure of our Justice System without Apology...
    Dec 9 2022
In our 14th episode, we had the privilege to sit down with a Mr. Jeffrey Deskovic of the Deskovic Foundation- a non-profit organization dedicated to the exoneration of the wrongfully convicted, their recovery, and reform of the system that allows these miscarriages of justice to take place.  Mr. Deskovic was sentenced to life in prison at the age of 17 for the rape and murder of a 15 year old girl he did not commit. The authorities who arrested him knew his DNA did not match that of the actual perpetrator – who, three years later, went on to murder another young woman and mother of two – but they still colluded to convict Deskovic and keep him in prison for 16 years of his life.  After his exoneration and release, Deskovic successfully sued the authorities responsible and used a substantial portion of the compensation he was awarded to start The Deskovic Foundation.  Deskovic has dedicated himself to assisting the wrongfully convicted, and recently graduated from the Elizabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University with a law degree. To this day, the Foundation has fully exonerated three people, freed eight others, and currently has eleven active cases in addition to proving peripheral assistance in other cases.  If you would, please support his cause & follow his journey at the links below:  -Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/Deskovic   -Conviction- Documentary: https://www.amazon.com/Conviction-Jeffrey-Deskovic/dp/B08F9CN2XG  -Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_deskovic_foundation/   -Website: https://www.deskovicfoundation.org/  -Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thejeffreydeskovicfoundation/   -After the Gate #afterthegate --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/afterthegate/support

  • The Paula Aguilar- Smith Interview: A Mothers' Journey of Incarceration, Advocacy, & Hope...
    Dec 2 2022

In our 13th Episode, we had the opportunity to sit down with a Mrs. Paula Aguilar-Smith of Tennessee. Formerly working as a correctional officer, Paula has seen a side of incarceration that many are never afforded the opportunity. While one of her sons is currently incarcerated in state prison, Paula explains that it's not always cut & dry in corrections. With an unknown release date on the prison sentence her son was handed, much is left up in the air to plan in regards to reentry into society. Anyone that has ever had a family member incarcerated understands this: your loved ones are doing time & counting down the days down just like the inmate is. It was truly an honor to be able to discuss some of the very important topics of incarceration, advocacy, & where one's hope lies for the future of corrections, justice, & advocacy.
