Summary

If your life has been affected by addiction (yours or someone else's), abuse, trauma or toxic shaming, you may also be struggling with another invisible problem - codependency. Without your even being aware of the connection to the above issues, it has created additional life-long challenges such as endless guilt, anxiety, perfectionism, need to control, depression, a history of dysfunctional relationships and much more.

This easy-to-understand, interactive book will reveal how codependency has sobotaged you, the lies it created in your beliefs and the truths that expose them. Also included is a Guide to Recovery using simple acts of mindfulness to overcome harmful habits in your thinking, actions and choices that are keeping you from having peace. Once you understand you are not crazy, just coping with the deep-seated effects of codependency, you will be free to create the life you were always meant to have.

Do the work

We can hear and listen but if we don't do the work we will not change.. So do it!

Hmm

I recently realised I had codependency all wrong.

I figured as a codependent, a person relied on others to take charge of their life situation and that they were dependent on that leadership from others to function.

THEN I read that actually, a codependent is a person who feels the need to control and provide for others whom they deem unable to look after themselves, that they wish to “save” others and then I saw myself.

I was interested to learn more so I picked this audiobook.

I have more clarity on codependent relationships now, which I am grateful for.

However, this book came off a little preachy and there’s so much about having faith in God - which to be fair the author warns about initially - but it lost me in that.

Faith is important in any healing journey, but it doesn’t have to be faith in God and in that I felt a little bored by the author’s constant chatter about having a relationship with this higher power.

All in all, a decent listen, but I didn’t relate and the tools for healing were not beneficial for me.

Nice, concise and practical

After reading few books about addiction and mental health, this book give a brief if everything from why you become ‘codependent’ and gives you good tips about what you need to do.

And yes as she says, get piece of paper and write down notes while you’re listening which I didn’t do 🙈

Well narrated and thought provoking

Well narrated and thought provoking book.
Didn’t think I would enjoy this much, but was pleasantly surprised.
Covers a lot of different areas that I wouldn’t necessarily think relevant to codependency, but found it to be very relevant.
I enjoyed it.
