Summary

They say going home is easy, and in all reality, it should be. Just not for me.

The small, one-horse town that gave me my roots, that made my soul thrive, is also the place I never wanted to set foot in again. I left everything behind and never looked back. Until now. With the death of the man who raised me, I’m forced to return to Boone.

Old wounds resurface, and heartache and loss trump everything once more.

Seeing the man who shattered my world the night of our high school graduation almost brings me to my knees. Jessie, my once best friend and love of my life, ruined it all for me...for us.

I’m back in Boone...and my secret is about to rattle the tiny town.

Jules and Jesse!

As children Jules and Jessie were best friends and over time their relationship evolved into much more. They had plans and dreams for the future and in Jessie’s view it didn’t include the news that Jules shared with him at their graduation, but it was his reaction to it that destroyed everything between them. His words were something she couldn’t forgive or forget so she leaves Jessie and her hometown never intending to return to the place that holds so many memories and so much heartbreak.

After her mother left she was raised by her Nanny and Papa Jack. Five years later when Papa Jack passes away she returns to help her Nanny. Jessie is still in town, but she is much stronger than the girl whose heart was broken, and she is not about to let him destroy her life for a second time. Jessie has regretted the way he reacted every day since she left, and he is determined to get his second chance with the only woman he has ever loved.

When life threw them a twist they handled it very differently but with maturity they became the soulmates they were always meant to be. I thought the narrators did a great job at bringing the story to life as children's voices can be more difficult to articulate. 🎧 Audiobook Obsession 🎧

Yesterday is Gone

I loved this second chance love story. I enjoyed the dual point of view. Jules and Jessie were great but the real star of this book was 5 year old Whit. There was angst as well as sweet, funny and sad moments. It's well worth a listen especially if you love stories with kids in it.

Austin & Whitton did a great job narrating this story and bringing these characters to life.

This was a very sweet listen!

I love HJ Bellus’s writing! Her stories are always real and heartwarming. This story of Jules, Jessie and Whit is no exception to her good work.

Jules comes back to town for her grandfathers funeral. She moved away as soon as she graduates high school. Right after her then boyfriend Jesse told her to “take care of it” when she told him she was pregnant. He had a football scholarship and it went to his head. I have to admit that I did NOT like Jesse at the beginning of this story!

When she comes back, he sees her and knows he never stopped loving her. He regretted what he said the minute he got on the plane to go to college and she wasn’t with him. Her grandparents wouldn’t help him find her. He came back to their home town and hoped she’d return.

So what happens when two people who loves each other all through high school, separates by hurt, see each other again after so long. And how does a father get to know a daughter he has never seen? This story will tell you a story of how Jessie and Jules handle it! It’s well worth a listen.

Austin Will and Whittington Frank do a good job with the narration.

Fantastic

I absolutely loved this book. Excellent storyline with great loveable characters. I adore Whitton’s little girl voice. So cute. Great narration from both narrators.

OMG

Love second chance romances and even more when there is a secret involved. Good read; loved Whit's character. Hope to read more about this small town.

Second chance romance. A little drama, sadness, pettiness, but a lot of fun with a small town flair.
Narration by Whitton Frank was well done, narration by Austin Wulp was stuffy, I’m sure he would be excellent in a different story just not this one.

Yesterday is Gone

This was such a great read/listen. I am a sucker for small town romances and even more so for HJ Bellus books. As always a solid and a bit emotional storyline leading to a wonderful HEA . The performance by Austin Wulp and Whitton Frank was very well done and helped the story along that much more.

Whit!

So much about this book that I love. It's small town, which is always good, it's low angst, it's a second chance romance and it has a little girl that stole my heart. HJ Bellus always comes through with such great stories, and this one hits the mark. Jules and Jessie are high school sweethearts, but when it comes time to adult, Jessie takes off to college, leaving Jules. When Jules comes back years later for her grandfather's funeral, this couple get their second chance. I loved the premise of this book, it's sweet and is how we all want life to be. While there are unanswered questions, and I wish Jules was a little less forgiving, their time together well worth the listen. But Whit definitely steals the show. With her innocence and tonacity, that little girl sure is spunky!

Austin Wulp and Whitton Frank give a good dual narration to this book. At times, they each did sound slightly monotone, but I found they both have a good variety of voices and complimented each other in style and pace. It's a great afternoon story to enjoy.

Small Town second chance romance

I really enjoyed this story. I felt that the book was well written and the narrators did a good job as well. I felt like I could connect to these characters and what they were going through. I'm from a small town and the author hit it just right with the small town vibes. Really enjoyed book one and will hopefully get to listen to book 2 soon.

2nd chances are worth it.

A great story story of rekindling your first love.
Jessie and Jules were HS Sweethearts. They had all these plans until a pregnancy. Jessie basically was a jerk about it and left for College. Jules kept the baby and moved to Cali. Jules returned after 5 years due to her dad's death.
Jessie finds out he has a daughter after 5 years. The story takes us on a journey of love, forgiveness and healing.
The narrators were both new to me. I thought they did a great job.
