About this listen
According to the US State Department, 10 million Americans live abroad. Should you be one of them? If you have asked yourself any of the following questions, the expatriate life may be for you.
- Do I feel safe in the United States?
- Can I survive financially on my retirement income?
- Will I lose my access to adequate healthcare as I age?
- Do I need more fun and excitement in my life?
Depending on your answers, maybe you should consider an alternative to your current retirement story. In this book, a retired Travel Consultant who has traveled to more than 40 countries and assisted many of her clients as they retired abroad, takes you on an informal journey of 9 diverse countries in Europe where you can retire comfortably and happily on a budget. This book demystifies the process of moving overseas by offering tips on acquiring visas, purchasing, or renting property, understanding healthcare options, and taxation policies, adapting to the culture, and more. You will also get some personal insight from current expats on the processes of moving and adjusting to a brand-new environment. Learn how a nontraditional retirement can be just the boost you need in your life.
If you ever wondered what it would be like to move abroad and just how to go about it, look no further than this book. Rediscover places you have always loved and discover some you may never have dreamed of. The one thing they all have in common is that you can live and thrive there for way less money than you can in the United States. Imagine living in paradise on your social security income.
You really can do it!

hmmm. Perhaps Malta!
I live in Cambridge, UK, and I have always dreamed of retiring in a cheap paradise not having to worry about cold and gloomy sky and dark days… with everlasting sun and sweet singing beach waves. But I never considered doing this anywhere else in Europe just because I thought it would be expensive and I would feel alien because of the language barrier!… I was wrong!
After listening to this audiobook, I learned that I could definitely live in a paradise with rich culture AND SECURITY.
Aside from this audiobook’s informative and well-written nature, I was impressed at how clear it is about taxation and the pros and cons of every country. The book explains the requirements before entering each country, the bureaucracy, the security, the healthcare, urban versus rural life, transportation, the weather, the food, cultural observations, living expenses, history, main language, the different ways to get your citizenships in all nine countries, and so much more, which could really help you narrow your choices down based on your taste and preference.
I love all of the choices the author presented though!.. Perhaps I could visit each one of them and decide which one it is!

Ready to Retire in Europe!
If the idea of retiring in Europe has ever crossed your mind, whether it is a concrete plan or feels like an unattainable dream, this is the book you have been looking for!
I have yet to retire, but I was an expat in Brazil for over 10 years, and listening to this book made me wish that the author had written a book about retiring in Brazil, because while this book is geared toward retirees, much of the information would be relevant to someone moving to Europe for any reason, at any stage of life. The chapters on each country include information about climate, healthcare, city versus rural life, transportation, cultural observations, cuisine, cost of living, history, and so much more.
Lily St. Francis does an especially excellent job of highlighting the charm and delightful characteristics of each country and culture, which is extremely helpful in narrowing down the choices of European countries. As you listen to the descriptions, you will find yourself drawn to and intrigued by certain countries more than others, based on how your personality and taste connects with the culture and what is available in each country.
Or, this book might make you decide to plan a survey tour before making up your mind which European country to retire in, because they all do sound delightful! If you follow the practical suggestions and helpful tips in this book, you won’t go wrong no matter which country you choose! Buy this book today, and start making your dream retirement a reality!
