About this listen
You are an adult! It’s incredibly frustrating that you have got to this stage of your life, and you can’t communicate without losing your rage. But when this impacts your entire life, it’s time to change!
One drink seems like a typical, sociable idea. But that one drink turns into several. One second you are happy and having a great time. The next, you feel like like a bull in a China shop. Inevitably, you argue with someone!
This is just one of the hundreds of scenarios that could occur when intense emotions arise and take control of every rational part of your body.
At some point, social interactions are going to be a necessary part of our lives. Hiding from the rest of the world is appealing. But after a few days, boredom and emptiness will take over. If you aren’t careful, this is just the beginning of destructive behaviors.
Is your boss noticing? Is your family concerned? Have you lost one too many relationships because of your mood?
Everyone needs a little help with their emotions. However, conditions like borderline personality disorder, PTSD, anxiety, and depression are going to make emotions even more difficult to manage.
Everyone could benefit from therapy at some point. But where do you start?
In this guide to Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), you will discover:
- How Marsha Lineham, the founder of Dialectal Behavior Therapy, changed how we
treat some of the most harmful mental health conditions. - What makes DBT different from other therapies due to its unique four principles
- How mindfulness, a 2,500-year-old practice, got its revival and became a crucial
part of DBT. - Six guided meditations to help overcome everything from fear of abandonment to
impulsive behavior—plus four other mindful practices. - The impacts of stress on the body and how one nerve can improve your tolerance to
distress. - Seven distress tolerance exercises to prepare you for an emotional crisis.
- The meaning behind DBT acronyms like D.E.A.R.M.A.N. and F.A.S.T. that are going to
improve your social interactions. - How assertiveness and healthy boundaries will boost your interpersonal effectiveness.
- Free exercises for social skills assessment and understanding emotional triggers
- What it takes to develop the idealized wise mind.
- How to reframe negative thoughts into positive self-talk in three simple steps.
And much more!
Every day you are faced with challenges, and every day you fight through them. But these issues return stronger and stronger, no matter what you try.
Today, you might be in the darkest place you can imagine. You are struggling to make it through the day, let alone be happy.
It’s not that you don’t have the ability to turn your life around. It’s that you are missing the practical knowledge to do so. And here it is, at your fingertips!

I like the way the author has articulated the audio book as a roadmap, it guides and navigates you how to become independent and emotionally regulated via dbt therapy Its like a road map how to navigate in simple steps, I have purchased other books that make this matter complicated to understand. . I now have a better understanding how to take care of myself and why my thoughts create my reality. You will be equipped by the time you finish this audio and feel more at ease and peace. I have made so many notes and highlighted them, and I will definitely be implementing the advice. Highly recommend!

A Very Interesting and Worthwhile Book
"What the Heck Is DBT?" is a comprehensive and insightful guide to understanding and managing intense emotions and anxiety through Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) principles. DBT is defined as “a practical treatment that gives access to skills needed to handle the "extreme" ups and downs of your emotions. It encourages the reader to face their uncomfortable feelings and learn to manage them instead of avoiding them”.
Author, R.J. Miller explores individuals’ challenges when emotions become overwhelming and offer practical skills and strategies to regain control. The book details the four main skills to master in DBT, Mindfulness, Distress tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. These four core principles are explored in great detail.
According to the book DBT was first formulated as a therapy by Psychologist Marsha Linehan to treat individuals with chronic suicide cases who also suffer from BPD (borderline personality disorder). It differs from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in that it focuses on emotions rather than on rational thinking.
Readers are taught to use DBT acronyms to remember practical exercises to develop social skills, set healthy boundaries, and improve their overall well-being. TIPP, ACCEPTS, and IMPROVES, i.e., TIPP is an acronym for Temperature, Intense Exercise, Paced Breathing, and Paired Muscle Relaxation, and according to the author utilizing these skills (which are detailed in the book), at the appropriate time will alter the body chemistry and bring the person’s overwhelming emotions under control in a crisis.
This book is packed with science-based information, delivered concisely and clearly. It’s easy to understand, and for anyone struggling with intense emotions and anxiety, it offers a wealth of practical knowledge and exercises proven to produce real results over time,
A very interesting and worthwhile book.
