About this listen
Chloe is beautiful and fiercely bright, but her thirst for booze and attention is insatiable.
Sara resents being tied down to anything, but part of her craves stability.
Elliot is secretly grieving the death of his famous lover and feels like he's invisible.
The lives and problems of psychotherapist Charlotte Fox Weber's clients vary, but all are united by a common question: what do I really want?
In What We Want, Charlotte Fox Weber takes us on a journey through 12 universal wants and desires, bringing us behind the closed doors of her practice. It is at once a fly-on-the-wall look at what binds us all, an expression of the profound importance of understanding and articulating our desires, and a practical toolkit for living well.

A great insight in to what we want and viewing therapy through the lens of a therapist
This book is not what I’d usually go for but glad I did. It’s an intriguing subject and I regularly stopped to think more about the interactions and experiences of the people involved in a way I’ve never done so before in a book, because it’s written in a way that feels relatable even when the author is talking about experiences quite far from my own.

Enthralling
A fabulous read, I was engrossed in the characters and their stories.
However, this is much more than a simple retelling of others’ experience and evolution, the author’s self-disclosure and candour transforms a précis on psychotherapy into Wisdom.
Read by the author, the performance is well paced and entertaining. I fully recommend.

Just amazing - and so accessible
I learned so much from this book, about myself, and why I feel the way I feel about certain things. It has helped me to understand me, it has supported my therapy, and helped me to think about my needs, and what I want. Charlotte is a psychotherapist who can write about psychology in an interesting and engaging way for those of us who aren’t psychologists, making the book very accessible to anyone. I truly recommend this book if you are feeling lost, stuck, confused or alone. It is concise and well written, and is more like listening to a collection of short stories which are intrinsically linked, and leading to a goal; a fulfilled life.
