Summary
When army officer Chike Ameobi is ordered to kill innocent civilians, he knows that it is time to leave. As he travels towards Lagos, he becomes the leader of a new platoon, a band of runaways who share his desire for a better life. Their arrival in the city coincides with the eruption of a political scandal. The education minister, Chief Sandayo, has disappeared and is suspected of stealing millions of dollars from government funds.
After an unexpected encounter with the Chief, Chike and his companions must make a choice. Ahmed Bakare, editor of the failing Nigerian Journal, is desperate for information. But perhaps the situation is more complex than it appears....
As moving as it is mesmerising, Welcome to Lagos is a novel about the power of our dreams for the future and the place of morality in a sometimes hostile world.

highly reccommended
So good I couldn't put it down. Onuzo is a talented writer and Opia is the best reader I have heard on audible, her rendition plunges the reader effortlessly onto the streets on Nigeria. A subtle book with deep insights and unexpected twists, not to be missed.

The narrator was sensational
The narrator’s accents were almost perfect - she’s gotta work on her Kenyan accent a lil haha
The story was cool… takes a little while to figure out where the story is going but a few chapters in, it hooks you in. I found the characters endearing, particularly fineboy. Overall, really good read

The most vivid and authentic description of Lagos
Loved it, really enjoyed the character building, the story arch. It fluidly navigates the complexities of Nigeria, the Niger Delta, Nigeria relationship with the old empire, corruption and more.

Thoroughly enjoyable.
Brilliantly written story with a great narrator guiding you through the tale. I could not stop listening, fell asleep listening to it and woke up catching up on what I had missed. Would definitely recommend to any lover of African writings.
