Informative & relaxing audiobook

A very informative (and relaxing) audiobook. Read beautifully by Sarah (parts of which had the same wonderfully soothing effect as the shipping forecast!) A great audio companion for my green fingered pottering around the house. It starts with some interesting historical information about community growing around the world and is full of practical tips on sowing, growing and nurturing plants. Particularly liked the tip on using banana skins and have already put this into practice! I aspire to have just an inkling of the plant knowledge Sarah possesses and look forward to more from her.

Thoroughly enjoyable introduction to growing.

First of all I should say that I was gifted an audio copy of this book by the author to review.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Sarah talk with passion about the ins and outs of growing in small spaces. It comes across that not only does she enjoy growing but she also enjoys teaching people how to grow. I learned about saving seeds, companion planting, composting and creating your own plant food which was very interesting. Left me wanting to learn more, which is always a good thing!

Brilliant, enriching and informative!

Brilliant, enriching and informative - I’m now itching to get out there!

Sarah explains why it’s important to grow food for ourselves, painting a picture in my mind of what’s needed. Setting the scene on a journey through time and with the living crisis in full swing there has never been a better time to start growing. Sarah kick starts thoughts and actions for growing in small spaces, with a checklist of ‘What are you needs?’ and shares her knowledge and experiences. An informative and enlightening book giving tips and tricks to restorative gardening. Caring for the environment on a shoe string in a sustainable manor in different containers. Sarah sets out sowing instructions, thinning and then guides you through feeding, watering, water conservation, pests and then onto bug hotels, companion planting, how to attract pollinators and the right kind of insects to aid and support our edibles to give all year round crops sustainably. Sharing what we grow to support each other, how to store what we grow and seed collection and swops to keep your circles with a bountiful collection of good stock seeds for the next planting cycle. Brilliant and informative I’m now itching to get out there!

Fantastic book! Enjoyable and informative

I loved this book. Sarah clearly has a lifelong passion for the natural world. Listening to Sarah was like listening to a wise friend imparting their knowledge.
This book is full of so many helpful tips and tricks to make growing that bit easier. I'm very much a "plant it and see what happens" gardener, but I feel I could have quite a successful crop of veggies next time after implementing some of Sarah's tips.
I enjoyed learning about companion planting, composting, seed saving, when and how often to feed etc..
I'll certainly be referring back to this book regularly to help me on my growing journey!

Excellent little book !

A brilliant, easy to listen to and follow book with very short practical chapters doing exactly what it says on the front! I enjoyed the brief historical context and the enthusiasm for using all urban spaces and avoiding chemicals. The idea of companion plants which compliment others really appeals to me! Practical instructions on choice of plants to start with, home made mulch and plant food, saving seed and natural pest control/ encouraging wildlife. Relevant for us now with veg shortages, household costs rising and interest in health/ nutrition and our environment. There are resources at the end and links for Sarah’s Twitter and newsletter too. The short book is the right length to kickstart you into action and makes growing plants accessible to anyone I think.
