Summary

Fifth grade was the worst year of Marc's life. He stunk at gym class, math was too hard for him, the school lunch was horrible, and his class field trip was ruined because he couldn't swim. But what was the most awful thing about fifth grade? Kenny Williamson, the class bully, who called himself the "King of the Jungle".

When Marc's mother tells him that his uncle Jake is coming to stay for the whole summer, Marc can't wait. Uncle Jake is a for-real super-cool Navy SEAL. And Uncle Jake has a plan.

He's going to turn Marc into a warrior.

Becoming a warrior isn't easy. It means a lot of pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, squats, swimming, eating right, and studying harder than ever before! Can Marc transform himself into a warrior before school starts in the fall - and finally stand up to the King of the Jungle himself?

Best advice of my life

Loved it. I can't believe that it has taken me 28 years to put this advice into action. The author has standing and authority on the subject. Applicable to all.

If I had had this book when I was a kid

It’s great. Read it to your child. It will not hurt them and there’s a real chance they will become better because of it.

Great book to teach kids and adults principles

In some ways I think this best represents Jocko's lessons. Putting it in simple terms - accessible to kids - really gets the message across. If you listen to the podcast and are inspired by his teachings at any age, you'll get something out of this.

Also jocko had to voice act a female character with the most masculine voice of all time 10/10 would spill my coffee all over myself again.

Fab book with lots of important lessons for kids

I got this book to listen to in bed with my son and thought I'd give it a quick listen before we tackled it together. I really enjoyed it and think that it's something that my 6 year old will not only enjoy but will also be able to relate to.
