Can't get enough
Viva Durant has taken ahold of readers of all ages, it seems and I'm definitely in love with these stories. New Orleans, jazz music, all black characters. This is what we need! The narrator is excellent, and keeps my attention. The third story however, I do have a little bit of negative feedback or criticism. There's a bit too much going on, and way too many new characters are introduced in the first few chapters alone. It's hard to keep up at times because these new people are not familiar to us. What made the first two books so excellent was the fact that it surrounded itself with the relationship between Viva and her grandmother and her friend. It was never dull, and you really go into the mindset of Viva in these stories. With this book, a lot happens behind the scenes that the book does not mention until it's happened and we jump forward in time a few times too. While the story is quite good, especially considering the dynamic between Viva and her grandma there's something lacking and everything happens very fast. I feel like if this story would've been 8 hours long it would've worked much better. All this being said, I'm definitely a fan of this series and will keep checking for the next book as I always do.
