Summary

Apprentice mage Chance Fortunato just can’t catch a break. His training has gotten even harder, and his mentor, Dr. Corwin, is pushing him to take his mage trials early. Still, it beats his old gig working for a demon. But life takes a turn for the worse when a member of his girlfriend Shade’s werewolf pack is killed by a member of a rogue pack. Adding insult to grief, the pack is forced to let the Conclave send an observer to monitor their investigation.

When the Conclave allows Jacob Kain, an alpha from the Boston clans, to act in their stead, though, things become even more complicated, as Kain has an agenda of his own. As Chance and Shade fight to keep Kain from taking over, a new enemy arrives with a very personal connection to Chance. Even if he can survive this deadly combination of forces, can he survive the plans of another, hidden enemy from his past? The only thing that is certain that before it’s all over, everyone’s true colors will show.

00G Alpha.

There's a scene within the story where Shade is attempting to, lets say, lift Chances spirit. She talks to him about the event in 'earlier book' where she was "Given the chance to say No". However, in this book she seems to change her whole arc by saying "You said no" instead.

I may be off in my thinking but that really grated on me. But i look forward to a better next book.

for now a reasonable conclusion to the series

I have for the most part enjoyed the books. There have been times where they have dragged along for no purpose other than I feel to reach a word count in print format. Description of the same object and or person who or has been interacted with previous is of mild annoyance. As are holes left by the writer.
Many things left unanswered.
This could and should have been better, it ties up the main story but not much else. So there is hope the author will revisit the series at a later date to complete the story properly.

How can a book be this corny?!?!?

The action is fine at best but everything else is getting so bad that I can’t even finish this book
